Gunsmithing Win. model 70?

I have a Win. model 70 in .270.
Can I turn this into another caliber like .243, 22-250, some sort of varmit round. Is this even possible?

their are a ton of options if you rebarrel. anything with either a 308 bolt face or 30-06 boltface. long action win would make a great 243 you could have it long throated and sling the 105 amax at some crazy velocities.

Yeah you can change it to one of those no problem.

.270 is .30-06 based, best bet is .25-06, barrel change is all you need. If your .270 is a pre 64 you are money ahead to sell and buy back whatever varmint round you want.

So can I buy any .243 barrel for a model 70?
What about my current bolt? Do I get a new one or change something on the exsisting one?

I'm just not a big fan of the .270

no your bolt is fine you just need to buy a blank and take it to your favorite smith and have him chamber and install it. or you could give the guys at benchmark barrels a call and send them your action and they will build your barrel of choice install and mail back to you. they guarentee their barrels to shoot 1/2moa or better and are great guys to deal with.
