Hello to all!

I have a Problem: i had my Win 70 CRF Super Grade of approx 1994 at 2 Gunsmiths. Didn´t check in between the safety.

Now the safety is blocked in the fire position. As for disassembly of the Bolt I should put the safety to the medium position, which is blocked now, I can´t disassemble the Bolt.

My question ( before I take it to one gunsmith ):

is it possible, to disassemble the bolt, without the safety in the medium position?

What may bind the safety?

( my guess: the bolt was disassembled, and not fully threaded together, so the saftey is "besides" the safety notch on the firing pin ) ( is that BS? If so, please correct me - I am not a gunsmith )

Shall I use brute force?

Thanks in advance, Hermann

Re: Winchester 70 Safety blocking! Help!

Wow, good advice!

thx!

Was able, to pull the FP back, but couldn´t find the "sweet Spot" for engagement of the safety.

Trigger job was earlier, but you may be right: i had the gun removed from the stock, as the bedding compound was "clinging" somewhat ... so maybe trigger movement was really affected ...

I´ll try tomorrow again, with my Son as help ...

thx again, Hermann

P.S.: how to disassemble the bolt with saftey "off"

I pushed in the little tab, and turned the bolt quarter revolution to the left. Now FP is fully forward, and nothing goes ...

Re: Winchester 70 Safety blocking! Help!

Visited my Gunsmith today.

Took him 10 Minutes.

Wanna guess, what caused the problem???

Unskilled operator. </div></div>

True.

I RE-mounted the scope bases, which were on before.

But my Gunsmith ( yes, the one, who did the evaluation now ) gave me back the screws, and one of them was too long.

This, perhaps one millimeter or less, too long screw did nothing, except slightly touching the bolt ( under the FRONT base!?! ), and somehow preventing the safety to be put in the middle or safe position ...

Go figure!

Hermann

P.S.: might be, they lost one screw and added another, might be, in one other hole it would fit ... I´ll check that last thing tomorrow!
