Did Winchester ever produce target rifles with non-checkered sporter stocks? I was browsing an auction website and there is listed a Pre-64 Model 70 Target rifle with a smooth sporter stock of approximately the same shape as the checkered stocks that the USMC rifles are typically depicted with. On a side note they also had, among other snipery things, a USMC Unertl described as arsenal boosted to 14x.

    Current auction or past?
They did make a few such rifles and they are scarce and desirable. Called Van Orden rifles. Look it up. Much info out there including serial # of the actual rifles. Not all Van Orden's were in non checkered sporter stocks.
