I am considering buying a Model 70 in 30-06. I will be building it up little by little as money allows. My qustion is this: will a standard Winchester 70 CRF action have enough strenght to support an 26", unfluted MTU barrel with a suppresor (can't get one right now, but I might later).

Thanks,

Re: Winchester Model 70

No problem. The CRF actions supported the heavy 06 bbls for years without issues. If you want an original 30-06 USAMU bbl...give me a shout. I have a few brand new bbls threaded and chambered from Winchester. You would need to make a cut for the claw extractor.

Best of Luck

Hey Longshot, could you tell me how much the barreled action weighs on your rifle? I thought about going for a straight taper, but picked the MTU because I don't really *need* such a barrel.

Thanks,

Re: Winchester Model 70

Never weighted it but the complete rifle was called a truck axle once by a local smith. Using my highly calibrated bicep I'd say it was in the 15 to 16 lbs range for the barreled action.

Why would you think it wouldn't??
