Have a 338 wm model 70. It has the boss brake system.

I want to put a 300wm bbl on it. What length is recommended? 24 to 30".

Thinking of a Douglas or shilen? Anyone reccomend another brand?

Also thinking about a manners stock and a Cdi precision bottom plate with Althea morta or ai box mag.

What about a trigger! Timney a good one?

Seems like it would be more cost effective to sell that rifle and go with either a FN SPR in 300wm or build a Rem 700. The FN would be ready to go out of the box and the 700 would be cheaper to build than what you have.

Doing what you are talking about basically leaves you just using the action on your current rifle and if you were going to choose an action to build on there might be better options. Just my opinion of course and if you want to build on that i'm sure it will work out, just might not be the most cost effective option. But that also depends on what you could sell your current rifle for.

Timney triggers are great. Best 100 bucks I spent on my rifle. Be careful with the Winchester bolt stop spring during the install, since it hooks onto the action where the timney plates go. I messed up one spring trying to get them to occupy the same space.

Go for it! The 300WM minimum barrel length would be 20" and I would suggest that you stick around the 24-28". Most custom barrels go for around $330, pick one and roll on. Manner's Stocks, can't beat 'em. CDI, as far as I know, they're the only game in town to offer the type of DBM it seems you're after. I've done a build off of one of these actions, and it shoots and functions perfectly.

It's called using a donor action, and is done all the time. He already has the action, so what's not cost effective about that?

I'm with you and understand, I was just thinking that he could get more $ out of the .338 whole and then buy another rifle/action for less $.
