Will a pre war Winchester Model 70 receiver accept a post war Winchester Model 70 barrel without any alterations?

Trying to gather parts for a Vietnam era Model 70 clone and can`t find any info on pre war vs. post war receiver thread size/pitch.

TIA

Re: Winchester Receiver Threads

It will accept it thread-wise as they are the same 1"-16 TPI. However even if they screw together, the pre-war has a cut in the barrel for the extractor.

Simply put, they won't be compatible.

Re: Winchester Receiver Threads

Yes all you have to do is cut the slot for the extractor on your pre-war barrel. Its not really that much of a deal. Just mill the extractor relief to .430.

Re: Winchester Receiver Threads

Thanks very much for the help- I should have stated that the post war barrel I was planning on using was a pre `64 barrel.

Not Quite! The barrel may need to be timed and the breech needs to have the "Cone" cut.

If as he says, it is a pre-64 barrel, then it will only have to be timed and headspace corrected.
