As the wind is starting to pick up here, I want to invest in a new wind meter. I have a cheap Caldwell right now.

I know about kestrel, but want something that can detect wind accurately while I'm pointing the device at the target, so I can get a "true" full value wind # if that makes any sense!

Never seen a wind meter that works like a rangefinder....you kinda have to put a little more effort into them.

You could try a Kestrel with Bluetooth mounted on a full-size tripod with a wind vain streaming live information to a hand held laptop or android via Bluetooth if you wanted accurate, consistent and constant data...however, that would be grounds for "gear pimp" status. ;)

I have a kestral, but also picked up one of these little wind adapters for my iphone. They work with android as well. Since the iphone has gps, it will tell you which direction you are pointing and reading the wind. ALso can save in logs. Now it only reads wind speed, but for the price is a neat little tool you can tuck in a rifle pack.

I just spin in a circle while I'm taking a piss outside. When I golden shower myself in the face I know I am pointing into the wind. Also helps mark your spot on the firing line.
