At least they got rid of the OK / Ignore buttons ....

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

MAC...

I've had my MacPro 3 years and it's crashed on my about 4 times. I'm sure one of those times it was my fault. I only use MS shit when I absolutely have to for work.

I've been running a Windows 2003 server since 2003 - it has NEVER crashed.

I never had an issue such as a crash when I was running Vista x64 and since the RC of Windows 7 x64, I've never had an issue with it either.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

I have went through about 5 laptops with windows. Went Mac about 2 years ago and never looked back.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

I never turn on my Windows Laptop so you can say I have never had it crash either... then again, I was so exhausted installing the updates and drivers I didn't have the strength to open it once I finished just trying to set it up for the first time to use it.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

Windoews 7 sucks ass too. All those commercials with little kids doing stuff so easy..BS! This laptop has been so freakin frustrating, I changed it's name to BITCH-PC so now anytime a Bluetooth device finds it, it says exactly what I named it

That is why I have slipstreamed versions of install disc's. Basically you have the disc in a folder broken into install files and then perform a little "work" on them by performing all the latest updates including drivers, browsers (plural), adobe programs etc. and a few other programs I like to install. Also a little program that lets me put the windows key in at the starting of the install. Then I just leave in for an hour or so to come back to an updated setup open and ready to go.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

MAC for me too.
I do have a Windows 7 equipped laptop for work. It makes work most interesting. Never know WTF is going to happen next.

How exactly has your Windows 7 experience not suited you? I switched my dad over from Win XP ---> Win 7 (without the Vista transition) and he's done nothing but raved about it. The first day or 2 he was commenting on how weird it felt, but that's all.

That is correct here as well, 12 months now on WIndows 7 x64 without an issue.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

People who have Windows issues must be spending too much time on porn sites or something. I've never had an issue to speak of that I can blame Windows for.

Frank, I know you were pissed because you were trying to get that crappy chrono software to load on there, but you can't blame all Windows issues on some program that looks like it was written at home by a guy with C++ in the early 80's and you were trying to put it on a 64bit Win 7 machine.

I have a Mac at home, it pisses me off, stuff that is simple in Windows life is not so simple on a Mac. How can it be you ask? It all depends what you know. I'm a fairly skilled Windows user so yes Windows is great and works fine for me, people that aren't advanced Windows users probably like Macs because without a great Windows base the Macs work fine for them. One isn't all that much better than the other, it's more about the one that you know how to use vs which is better imho.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

What problems do you have, Switch? We've migrated just about everyone to Windows 7 here at work, and the engineers in particular got a nice performance boost. Same machine, just upgraded OS.

I have an iPhone, I'd never buy a Mac for fear that it would be just as big of a piece of junk.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

I run windows on a pos hp laptop and its great, other than the constant updating, but I just ignore it all for a month, then do a bunch at once. I dont know much about comps, but I dont like anything apple, it all seems clunky and communist, in the way that it has so little options, only made by one company, everything is the same.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

I switch to Mac about 6 years ago. The reason for the switch wasn't so much Windows as it was the computer (Dell) I was using. My (Dell) laptop died, so I got a Dell desk top, it's what work gave me. It was a POS. It would lock up with only 3 screens open. The internet was slow as hell. I had someone look at my computer and he said my internet was blazing fast, but my computer was just slow. Call work sent the computer to the and purchased a Mac because my wife suggested it. She is a Windows wizard, but prefers Mac because it's easier and faster for her.

I will say the consent update or fixes for windows sucks. They should put out a finished product that doesn't need fixes as so as you get it home from the store.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

When 75-80% (Down from almost 97% a few years ago) of computers use Windows, you are going to have more complaints about the OS. If the market was reversed, meaning Mac and their proprietary OS made up 75-80% of computers, people would be bitching about them and others would say, oh I love my Windows based PC, and I never have a problem with it. For years, Macs were used by people who couldn't operate a Windows based PC without it being a clusterfu*k. They are different animals, for sure.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

Thing is, I see all of the DOD patches that are REQUIRED for security reasons and this week I see Linux and MAC in there equally as often as I see Windows now...

Not quite as many but MORE important...

6 of 1, half dozen of the other....MAC=Linux.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

If it's a Photoshop, there sure are a lot of original versions of it showing up around the Internets.

I'm downloading the developer's preview editions right now. I'll see can I find where they keep this new BSOD.

You're assuming there is such a thing.

Actually, I think W2K2 was the best XP ever released. To bad they never built a desktop version. There was a "hack" to allow W2K3 to use desktop AV, DirectX and such but I could never find the right installation media to make it work. I forget the particulars but the run of the mill corporate edition wouldn't work.

My W2K3 exchange servers still take routine reboots, though.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

Never had a problem with my Windows-based desktops. I got Vista when it launched and while everyone was complaining about it I had not a single issue. Then got Windows 7 for $30 when I was still a student and haven't had any crashes other than when I pushed my overclock to far.

Macs are not an option for me for a desktop. I can get a PC that is the same performance for 1/2 the price. I game on my computer for fun as well and though Apple has made big strides in this area in the recent past, it is still not close.

For a laptop I would be tempted to get a Macbook. My fiancee has one and it is a good computer. Apple even replaced the dead logic board in her Macbook at no charge recently even though she is not in the warranty period any more, that's some good customer service.

Give it too me... I have traded in my MacBook Pros that were 3 yrs or older and gotten as much as $650 trade in value on a new one.

By the way they have insurance it's called Apple Care, I get it but never have to use it.

PowerMax gives you a trade in on new Macs, my 5 yr old Mac Pro tower was worth $750 on trade in, not bad considering you get a factory new Mac without the taxes and money off on your old one.

Over-valued trades.
Extended warranties that are never used.

Re: Windows 8 proudly carries on the MS tradition

ive had several pcs running different versions of windows.. I have had problems with all of them, and all of the exhibited instability from an early age. Finally got a mac book pro, and have had zero crashes. there is a bit of a learning curve, but the software seems so much more stable on the mac. It is also at least twice as quick on the interwebs.

Yes, was in the closed Alpha too. Very fun but I want the big conquest maps to come out with all the vehicles.
