Lots of experiments out there where people have shot gas tanks and no large scale explosion. Maybe multiple hits after the fuel as leaked out but then again would be a lucky chance to ignite fuel like that laying on the ground. Not saying it wouldn’t, but would be a lucky shot I think.Tracers?

Maybe have to go shoot some diesel cams with bullets to see now.
For the most part same principles of operation. M9a1-2 were propelled by nitrogen and modern replicas usually use Co2 because it is easier to get probably. I’m not saying it can’t and won’t, more along the lines of it would have to be a lucky shot. Odds are more than likely in your favor.Unsure how modern FTs differ from the WWII version but Ive read a few accounts of operators fearing the bullet in the tank as well accounts of some sort of a malf where ops were burned.

I don’t have hard numbers but based off the number of flamethrowers used in combat, the pacific theater probably, and any instances of a system exploding due to a bullet impact is probably small?
Tell me they get a leather service shoe they still have to shine please......
Skuzz Brushes.....Get 'em?
Pressure from nozzle is like a steady shove, they were pressurized to around 400 psi or so in the tanks, had a 1/2 inch feed line that squirted out of the tip hole. I am not sure on what the .mil ones had diameter wise. Most of my experience playing with a FT, the pressure has been a much tamer 200-250. That still blows some fire pretty good.If they were that fragile Im thinking how did they get anyone to go near them.
I understand they had a pretty good "kick" and if not prepared for you might lose control of the nozzle. Im guessing its not like a metallic cartridge "kick" just some sort of pressure issue.
Which "if" the tank was breeched could lead to a spray of fuel and issues in the vicinity of same with open flame.
They also made a M1903-A4 into a USMC M1941 sniper in that movie......just sayin.
It would be interesting if you could get a hold of these guy's (using that term loosely) phones and get inside their contacts. There's got to be a universal law group or attorney that they are provided with to contact if they are arrested.I would be interested in knowing exactly where the money came from that bailed his narrow little ass out...twice.

They're issued the plastic service shoes. Leathers are still authorized to be purchased though.
Scuzz brushes are still a thing. We almost lost them awhile back due to shenanigans, but they are still in use.
I thought the sniper guy just went around with an extra Unertl scope in his gear and swapped out the 2.5x on one his A4 for a few scenes when he needed extra magnification. They also made a M1903-A4 into a USMC M1941 sniper in that movie......just sayin.

Drilled, tapped and installed scope blocks while he was in the sacristy of the church prior to climbing the bell tower....
Was it just in one scene, then? 'Cause I could swear the whole rest of the time including being in the bell tower he's packing an A4, just sometimes with the Unertl (or possibly a Lyman) scope. I'd have thought IMFDB would note a rifle change; they're usually pretty on top of that and other goofs.
And in the rain when Vin Diesel got shot, too (and they ripped of Hathcock's through-the-scope shot, at that). He pulled the Hollywood fantasy trick of mounting the Unertl on the A4 prior to the bell tower.
If you think about it its almost an insult to the guys that did the fighting for real.
Their efforts were not worthy enough a story but Hollywood will spice it up with some bullshit.
Damn, it’s still got “rifle” on it too!!!!And in the rain when Vin Diesel got shot, too (and they ripped of Hathcock's through-the-scope shot, at that).
I can't figure using an 8x scope at such a relatively short range would even be useful during the bell tower part, especially a long-ass scope like the Unertl and with Jackson being left-handed using a right-handed rifle.
But on the subject of flamethrowers, I bet most folks have never seen this before:

Couldn’t agree more. The worst thing the Army did during my tenure was go to the “wash and wear” mindset. Pressing a uniform and shining boots to look good gave us something to work for when we weren’t in the woods.Work is looking at abandoning the Corcorans for some sneaker comfortable shit.
Hey I like comfort but a uniform besides making you look uniform should be designed to force you to present at a certain expectation.
Make peeps look too comfortable and they will act "comfortable".
Kills me kids, and most adults, dont wear anything but sweatpants these days......and they act it.
Those Corcs are NOS supply found from the 60s. I grabbed as many pairs as were close, either smaller or bigger, to my size.
Yep, especially since flamethrower ones seem to be really rare, I'm guessing because relatively few people were in the Chemical Corps to begin with. No replacement medal/award/citation vendor I've found offers a flamethrower bar, either. That’s even cooler!! Maybe one day my kids will have mine laying around and think about what it is
