Wish they would make a Remington 5R in .260

Would anyone buy a Remington 5R in .260 Remington if it was made with at the same quality level and price as their current 5R offerings?

I'd like to get a modern SA 6.5 rifle that's not quite up to the price of a custom. I think the only other option in the 1k-1500 price range is a savage.

Maybe if we generate enough interest, Remington will listen, although I wouldn't hold my breath.

i think that with the current rise in trends regarding the 6.5, a Remington 5r .260 would sell quite well. its a good idea.

benchmark will make u whatever u want in whatever twist

my 260 barrel they made for me is still shootin at 2800+ rnds

dont settle for factory when u can easily get what u want

I wouldn't count on them listening.

They have two excellent long range, short action cartridges that they standardized, the 7mm-08 and the .260.

You can occasionally find an SPS varmint in 7-08, but none of their high end rifles with varmint barrels are chambered for either.

Of course, you are talking about a company that standardized a new combat cartridge spefically developed for short barrels with a slow twist, they put it in a rifle with a 26" fast twist barrel. (6.8spc). They no longer catalog any rifles for it.

I'd love to see the Remington 700 5R come in .260 Rem., .243 Win., and 7mm-08 all of which are balistically superior to the .308 Win. and would buy that rifle in any one of those cartridges. I doubt that Remington will listen to consumers though. I agree with fdkay on the frustration with Remington about not offering any of their higher end varmint rifles in these calibers. I'd love to see Remington offer a 700 in stainless with a 26" non-fluted varmint barrel and the HS Precision synthetic stock in the above calibers, but it's not to be had.

You could easily buy an SPS in the $500 range, pick up a barrel for $300, and pay $350 to get your rifle trued and bbl installed. Look for a take-off stock and you are in the same money once you sell the unused take-off bbl and stock.

A major ammunition manufacturer with established "match" product line is coming out with a match .260 Rem. offering very, very soon.

This. Remington has somewhat of a history of good ideas and cartridges with twist rates not quite in line with customer wants. I wouldn't be in the market for one as I don't like the stock on the 5R, I found the palm swell to be too much.

However, although I wouldn't buy one I think it would sell very well if it had a 1 in 8" twist. There are plenty of people out there wanting to get into the long range game that either don't have the budget for a custom setup or aren't ready to commit to having one built as they're not sure they'll stick with it. I know I was one of them.

+1 on that idea. Remmy has been doing better with twist since acquiring aac. At least they offer a 1/10 308 already threaded. A threaded 22 to 24 in. 5R in 260 with a nice 1/8 twist would be pretty darn cool.

I`m haveing one made. Rem 700 varmit in 308 removed the barrel true the action and a 260 Rem barrel installed then teflon coated flat black.

now if the gunsmith will call me when he has it done.....

Wasn't the original 5r produced because a distributor asked Remington for it? I don't think it was listed in any Remington catalogue at the time. So, I assume if some big distributor did the same for another caliber, the 260 and others are a possibility. It wouldn't necessarily require Remington to come up with the idea (if what I said earlier is true).

A distributor has to tell Remington: "If you make 'this' I will order XXXXX units...Here's the PO, when can I expect delivery???"

As long as the number of units covers the cost of the tooling and still make a profit, it will happen. It won't be a catalog item, but they will be out there.

I have a Savage Tactical made in 1998 in 260 Remington, it has a 8 twist barrel which likes Lapua 139 Scenars.

About even money with your Rem 700 5R, and I personally think it looks a bit nicer too ... I don't care for the 5R's finish on the barrel or stock ... I duracoated mine shortly after getting it.

When I shoot out my 5R (.308) barrel, I plan to have a .260 or 6.5 CM barrel fitted to it.

A good source told me that the 5R was originally made to order by a Govt./Military agency (he wouldn't tell me which one). I remember seeing a photo a few years later with a bunch of guys on a firing line in Woodland pattern BDU's and USMC style caps shooting 5R's. No faces, rank, or insignia could be seen in the photograph since it was taken slightly from the rear at an angle. SEAL snipers in training maybe?

Acusport is the one doing all the 5R guns right now, both Remington and Savage.

The problem is the minimum order, 100 might be worth the gamble but 500 might be hard to swallow. I was looking forward to the AAC 260 that was supposed to be sommething like a 700P with a threaded barrel.

I am having a hard time not ordering a Tikka Sporter in 260 I just wish the long barrel was threaded like the short one
