Anyone have any chrono data for this ammo for various temperatures? Looking to see how much variation in MV there is with different temps. Please include barrel length with your data!

Thanks!

Rob

Re: Wolf MT chrono info request...

I've chrono'd the Wolf once. This was done on 12/12 with 10 shots fired. I'm guessing the temp was around low 70's at the time.

Re: Wolf MT chrono info request...

Here's data for Anschutz Biathlon 1427, the barrel is maybe 22", I can check it after the weekend's hunting trip if I remember...

Temperature 32C / 90F in the beginning of the range trip and 30C / 85F in the end. I shot several brands back-to-back, didn't condition the bore in any way in-between. This ammo is SK Standard Plus, which should be same as Wolf MT.

Chrony M1, measured 1.5 meters / 5 feet from objective.

My data is metric, I just threw it at AWK to include also FPS output. So of course the two decimal places on FPS are not legit. Just round to whole numbers or something. I didn't have time to check the manual and play with printf() function.

Re: Wolf MT chrono info request...

is there a site or link that looks at the same things with other brands?

Re: Wolf MT chrono info request...

just about any rimfire section or site has something in it, and usually covers alot of different ammos. problem is, their set up or test rifle is usually different than yours. then their are the ones that copy and paste from the manufacturer's sites. honestly, the only manufacturer that i've found that's close is hornady, and that's with .22mag ammo.

there's another site called sniper's hide that has some good information:
altitude speed of sound chart
chronographed .22 ammo
list of rimfire ammo ballistic coefficients
CCI .22lr ballistic coeffecient table
22 BC and velocities
and a host of other posts,

and other places (simple google search):
http://www.korabrno.cz/bal-22.html
http://www.gunsmoke.com/guns/1022/22ballistics.html
http://stevespages.com/page8f22rf.html
http://proszak.sasktelwebsite.net/Rimfire%20Ballistics.html

browsing here:
http://www.rimfireshooting.com/
and here http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/index.php produces more results.

while all of the above has good information, in the end, the best test is doing it yourself as height above sea level, temperature, humidity, distance chrony is away from the barrel, the manufacturer of the rifle itself - all come into play with a rimfire and rimfire ammo just as much (and sometimes even more so) than centerfire. i've had ammo that had less than 15 FPS deviation in the first 25 rounds (weighed, rim thickness sorted too) and something as simple as the change of the season adds or lessens the FPS anywhere from a 25 to 125 FPS average increase or decrease in the second 25 rounds.

then there is the temp of the ammo itself:
Effects of ammo temperature itself - not air temp

so even though there is alot of information available, what works in the winter isn't the same in the summer and visca versa, same goes if sun is beating down on the ammo itself.

you can see just in the responses to the OP how much differences are encountered with Wolf ammo alone, even vs. what wolf advertises http://www.wolfammo.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3&Itemid=118

so a general FPS for a particular ammo is nice to have, but it should be shot yourself through a chrony to get the "real deal". all this stuff above should be used as a guide, not as gospel.

wish there was 1 source that tested in different temperatures, different rifles, different barrel lengths, etc, but as far as i know ther isn't that takes most of the variables into consideration.

Re: Wolf MT chrono info request...

thank you. bunch of stuff there i didn't see in earlier research.
