You know, I am all for killing feral animals that are out of control, and or damaging property. I also believe that it should be done quickly and as cleanly as possible. To toss someones cat in a dumpster is kinda wrong. Painful way to die if you ask me. The cat is not even doing any thing wrong, just wanting to be friendly. Would kinda be like feeding your neighbors dog Antifreeze, on a hot day when it is just thirsty and wanting a drink Just to watch him hack up blood, then his guts, and eventually die. The cat is not even doing any thing wrong, just wanting to be friendly I would be PISSED is some one did this to my pet. It has to be someones pet, I have tried to catch wild cats, even with leather wielding gloves they still tear you up.
But then again, who any more cares about the property of any one but themselves any more.

Obviously it smelled some yummy things in the recycle bin!
She just put the lid on so it could eat in peace.

I think people huff up on being cruel to animals to give themselves a kind of faux bravado. It's pretty silly really. Everyone in every culture I'm familiar with generally tends to find virtue in the quality of someone who stands up for weaker people or creatures that can't stand for themselves.
In this case the weaker creature being threatened to die is obviously the cat, but the same principle extends to all kinds of scenarios.
I say shame on that woman and good thing the dad found her the little girl in that household probably would've been heartbroken. Would feel the same about anyone who would threaten to kill any of your pets for no reason at all also.

BUT, we only saw a little clip, maybe that cat was shifting in her garden or causing damage to something of hers, we don't know if she's just a sick Fuck, or if she actually had a reason, pretty tough to draw conclusions from 36 secs of footage with NO background info. Just sayin, playing devils advocate.
If she did it for no reason then its REALLY FUCKED UP!!

We blast every stray cat that gets dumped off, they are rough on wildlife in general out in the sticks, so its a control issue & a pita having to do.

I posted this as a small social experiment. From the feral cat thread there were a lot of comments regarding ALL cats. Some guys don't like cats, some are indifferent, some think that shooting a feral cat is on the short road to being a serial killer.
Some of the names in this thread who've joined the "cruelty" bandwagon and the faux bravado (as aptly coined by CW here) were advocating the idea that "it's us or them, get'em before they get you."
Strange about-face that I've seen here.

When I first saw this clip it was from a co-worker and we were talking about it at lunch. The idea for the social experiment came from wondering how many people would follow the leader. I posted this on another forum with an opposite initial post. I said something to the effect that reflected Maser's response... albeit without the hamster porn.
The other forum has a moderator who's known to be anti-feline and his response was actually what I wrote above here. I decided to take that approach here and see what I'd get from it instead. Over there, the ass kissing with the moderator meant there was a bunch of guys who agreed with him.
The one thing that this video did prove to me was that it's much easier to influence the response of people who've seen it by what they read ahead of time. COURAGEWOLF put up a well written response that is based in rationality and it was easy to get behind him, whether or not the whole story of the incident was known.
Just to reiterate, I don't particularly care what her reasons were, if the animal indeed was a nuisance, then stuffing it in a waste bin was the wrong way (and rather sick) to deal with it. Something is wrong in her head, and it appears that they've identified her and the actions are being dealt with appropriately.
Some of the common ideals are upheld, Graham's response I expected to be consistent with the last thread. Had GregL. responded to this thread I'd expect a consistent response from him as well. Others I expected to hear the same, but not so much.
I apologize for getting your collective feathers ruffled over my initial post. I'm not apologizing for posting the video, just misleading you on my take with this woman's actions. I think the clip is important and for the obvious reasons that we've already discussed in the thread.

An interesting experiment, would you toss a rat, or a mouse in a trash bin? What if it is a pet rat or mouse that is loose? I am not really seeing a difference? I don't see myself dumping a cat sitting on a stoop in a trash bin, but I could easily dispose of a cat that is tearing up my property. (deck cushions etc..)

I don't a problem putting a mouse trap or a rat trap out for vermin control, nor do I have a problem trapping a nuisance animal like a skunk, feral cat, possum, etc. to euthanize it or just flat out shoot it (conditions permitting).
I do have a problem with purposely putting any of those animals in a contained area that's going to cause it undue suffering for the simple fact that I want it dead. Killing for pleasure is wrong IMO, there needs to be a legit reason for it. Hunting for food, culling animals from the herd (usually to be eaten), controlling mice/rats/pests/etc. are reasonable.

So what you are saying, is that as long as you have a reason, and kill the animal first you are good to go? not much difference to me in crushing an animal in a trap,(or impaling it as many outdoor traps do) and dumping it in an enclosed area?

Sort of, I'm saying that a legitimate purpose along the lines of what I mentioned above AND doing it humanely is not cruelty. The cruelty aspect is what I have no support of.
Snapping a mouse in a mouse trap isn't cruelty, nor is a clean kill shot. If you locked the animal in a black metal box and left it in the sun to bake and slowly die I'd consider that horribly cruel.
Sort of, I'm saying that a legitimate purpose along the lines of what I mentioned above AND doing it humanely is not cruelty. The cruelty aspect is what I have no support of.
Snapping a mouse in a mouse trap isn't cruelty, nor is a clean kill shot. If you locked the animal in a black metal box and left it in the sun to bake and slowly die I'd consider that horribly cruel.

I agree, animal cruelty for cruelty's sake is not a good thing. I am just not sure why (other than the fact that it would be dead) it would be better to dump a mouse in the bin after it has slowly died of poisoning, been crushed by a trap etc.. I was expecting about 60% in the opposite direction but I think the reaction of the Super Mod on that forum swayed some people's responses. Still though, I think the general trend was supported there.
The second place (shocking content, shocking delivery) would jump down on the OP and the content, the rational delivery of admonishment will get more people on the band wagon to jump on the OP and you'll never get anyone trying to rationalize the behavior shown because they don't want to be ridiculed as well. I knew that this place was the one to post that on because of the feral cat thread form last summer which caused so much controversy. I had an example of what some members already had said, so let's see if they're consistent and stand on their ideas or if they go along with the crowd so as to avoid being admonished and ridiculed themselves. One of those Infotainment shows that comes on after the news led off with this last night. It was on in the other room while we were eating dinner.
The intro was something like, "Could she be the meanest woman in the world? - Woman caught on tape throwing cat in the garbage!"
I told my wife that I didn't think that was going to beat the woman who killed her kids, put them in the car, and drove it into the river.
It was mean, but it wasn't the meanest.

Good year for mice and snakes.
Both were coming into the shop.
Mice were getting into our new lockers and finding our snacks.
I had to mouse-proof 19 lockers.
We set one up as a bait station.
They were happy to check the locker with the traps, and tell us it needed re-set!
We put a sign on it that said "Death Chamber."
Snakes would just crawl around, and freak them out!
Only Milk, Corn and Garters made it in.
They were put back outside.
The two Copperheads found outside, didn't fare so well!
If you bleeding hearts need a story about a frickin cat, I have one of those too! (Or I have a cat or two to send you.)

To each his own. We all have ideals about what a real man is. If I'm to be labeled a bleeding heart, as opposed to a heartless bastard I'll take that. If I really cared what anyone thought about me, particularly a bunch of people that get their rocks off for the joy of killing small animals I'd avoid posting altogether.
I'm willing to wager it's unlikely most of the people on here have actually killed as many animals as I have growing up on a farm harvesting rabbits, turkeys and chickens on a yearly basis let alone hunting and fishing. I've hauled around garbage bin after garbage bin full of guts after participating in some way to raise all those animals up from babies.
In fact I would estimate that it was growing up surrounded by death that caused me to appreciate it and the pain that surrounds it. Whether you have that same appreciation or not is your own issue. Enjoy your needless suffering.
