Wasn't sure whay category to post in... Guess it ended up hear. This is my berm at 600 yards. I think I will try to get it a bit taller??? What does everyone think? How high do you usually make your berms?

I'd like to see it at least twice that high unless there is absolutely nothing beyond it for miles that would be damaged or killed by a stray bullet.

What is in the impact area if you miss the berm?

It looks like the slope of the ground just in front of the berm has a slight upward slope to it.
It is usually possible to dig that area and flatten it out. put the dirt on top of berm which helps, but the biggest plus is to lower the targets.
If you can get them a foot and a half lower,, you just raised the berm that much.

Just have the target area so it still drains, so the targets aren't sitting in a frog pond.

I think mine are 10' or 12'. As high as you can build it without tipping your bobcat

Drainage is very important, also you will want to put something on it so it doesn't get washed away in heavy rain. They make this highway grass/plant support netting that you might want to use over the top of the berm. It encourages vegetation to grow on it which will help stabilize the soil.

Mine looks like a green hill now and is not as much as an eyesore as a dirt pile.
