Hello,

I introduced a thread a while back about the most underrated actor/actress, and now I am doing the opposite. Who is the most overrated actor, actress, or both that you can think of?

For me it's Will Farrell, he plays the same, god damn stupid roll, in every fucking movie he has ever been in. Runners up: Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Zach Galifianakis, etc.

The reason this comes up is I just rewatched the 'Silence of the Lambs' and 'Hannibal' movies, and Julianne Moore, or AKA Julie Anne Smith, actually fucking destroys the movie with her shitty acting. She reminds me of how bad the chick was in Boondock Saints 2. I mean HOLY GOD DAMN FUCK, Pornstars have better acting! I digress, please tell me yours.

Every actor in the Twilight movies.

I wouldn't know, I was too busy fucking during those movies to pay attention to them. Only girls are watching that shit, might as well be '50 Shades of Cunt'. Actually though, Kirsten Stuart has surprised me in other movies, but I digress as she has shown her true form a couple years ago, typical of 'hollywood' hos.

Kirsten Stewart, Paris Hilton, that ugly bitch from sons of guns (not a movie but a scripted lame show none the less), will Hayden (again, clown ass fake drama show), Sally fields (just hate her for some reason), the chick from the "weeds" series, skylark from the breaking bad, Megan fox (awful, but hot)

Jim Carrey worst ever, such a tool...

Vanilla Ice......lame...

Owen Wilson
Drew Barrymore
Seth Rogan - I don't dislike him at all, I just got tired of his same act in every movie but he's not exactly "superhero" or "hollywood sexy" material so I guess you have take what roles you can get.

and as mentioned above, Will Ferrell.

Will Farrell? How dare you sir.... He is truly a great

Keanu Reeves - horrible
Joaquin Phoenix - somehow even more horrible - He vexes me....I am terribly vexed (Gladiator)

Anyone who gets their roles by who they know rather than actual acting ability. (Nick Cage and Keanu Reeves have already been mentioned). Kevin Costner also fits that bill.
Also, do you count people who can only play the same type of role, even if they do it well? I like Harrison Ford, but I don't think he can do anything but his natural self.

^^^The Room is a classic . . . So bad all around it's actually interesting.

I nominate Christopher Lambert and Sofia Coppola.

Quentin Tarrantino in anything he has done, including Pulp Fiction. Although I do like " dead niggar storage" line.

+1 on Will Farrell, I cannot even watch because he down to his skivvies in every show, dammit now,

Jean Claude van damme and his fucking splits! Lame.

Keuana Reeves and Jennifer Lopez. These are people who are seriously trying to act, in serious roles, and suck. Since Matrix, I have not paid to see either actor/actress in a movie, nor have I watched it on TV. I'm not sure how they continue to get roles.

At least with Will Ferrell, I know what I am getting and he is very funny at times (same with Jim Carrey). If you have wasted your money to see Expendables 3, many of those people are right up there in terrible.

Clint Eastwood and John Wayne don't have any range: they always play themselves. But they're good and enjoyable.

Many of the younger ones are the same, but mediocre in the substance of their personality and performance. No names come to mind other than some already mentioned.

How about directors? I feel like every Michael Bay movie is nothing but explosions and a plot line made for extreme ADD kids. As far as actors go I can't stand Jim Carrey, Sean Penn, or Tom Cruise.

I absolutely HATE Seth Rogan.

Tom Green I'd punch on sight, just because it needs to be done.

Keanu Reeves has the personality of a stale ham sandwich. Everything he does is less than it could be with anyone else. I really believe The Matrix series would have been better served with Nick Cage than Reeves, that's some sad shit right there.

Anything with a 'baldwin' in it.

And Tom Green,

And j,,, f,,,a......... that broad who doesn't even deserve to have her name written. YA'LL know of whom I'm referring.

As already mentioned: Jane Fonda, entire cast of Twilight. I also tire of the same characters played in every goddamned movie starring the following:
Vince Vaughn
Seth Rogen
Will Ferrell
Jonah Hill
Paul Rudd
Brad Pitt
Owen Wilson
Keanu Reeves
The above all started out decently enough (who didn't think Keanu didn't shine as himself in Bill & Ted or Parenthood?), but once their lack of depth surfaced, it got old real quick-like

I forgot about that tool. He will ruin Batman

When I worked for Roland Emerich at Centropolis studios scripts would come across our desks every other week. The people who approve scripts would ask for our opinions and wanted to know what the possible budget would look like. At one time I got a script that was a re-wright of Casablanca staring Ben Afleck and Jennifer Lopez. I marched it over to our readers office and dropped it in the trashcan in their office and yelled "Sacrilege" The head reader at the time was a guy named Eric Cartwright who stood up on his desk threw his fist in the air and yelled "Fuck Yeah!" Everyone had a big laugh and said they more or less wanted to shit on the script as that's what it was doing too the memory of such a great film.

I don't want to start a war here but... I think Scarlett Johansen (or however it's spelled) is criminally over-rated. I simply do not see any acting skills in there. Perhaps I just haven't seen any movies where she isn't an unenthusiastic, dead-eyed, boring character. Even in those action-packed Avengers movies, she manages to be the most boring character to watch.

I will go out on a limb here though and defend Keanu Reeves a little bit. No, his acting skills aren't the greatest, BUT when it comes to actually learning the physicals skills required of him for a role like he did for John Wick 2, I have to respect the lengths he went through. He took Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Stunt-Driving, and 3-Gun classes for months just to prepare for that role and I think the authenticity of his efforts showed.
I will support anyone who goes through that kind of training to prepare for a role, as opposed to the regular hollywood "pretty-boy" relying on special effects and stunt doubles.

No one has mentioned Steven Seagal?
reeves is a johnny one note, but I can deal with some of his stuff.
Some folks are good second bananas but can't carry a film. Tom Arnold is one of those, as well as Vince Vaughan.

How about that twat Merril Streep... Meryl?

I can't think of a movie I ever saw that said pussy-hat broad was in. But she is the "actor of a generation?"

Another leftist dingbat who needs to understand that her 'stageplay' has nothing to do with real life. And that her opinion matters... nothing. She should shut her leftard cock-holster and stop thinking that those of us who have actually done 'something' in life... not acted it... matter more than her Thespian blather.

Cheers,

Sirhr

John Wayne

I will NEVER understand what was so appealing about him. I'm a fan of classic movies and there's just nothing good about his acting. He's was SO overrated!

Guys, this has been settled years ago by the movie that was so bad that it has become a cult classic.

1 Nicholas Cage
2 Keanu Reeves
3 Tom Cruise
4 ZSA ZSA Gabor

--- 2 of 4 covers the actress part

now to get flamed - spoilers are John Wayne & Clint Eastwood - other than one liners it's actually kinda hard watching either as a serious actor with more than 2 sentences pieced together

Personally if we are talking acting ability and leaving all of their political view bullshit aside......I cannot stand anything with David Schwimmer. That guy annoys me to no end.

Mark Wahlberg.....i have a sincere desire to punch him squarely in the face.

wanna be tough guy that literally plays the same character in every movie.....and pretends to be from Boston when its convenient for him (ie. making his marathon bombing movie)

Wait; I'm only the second guy to say 'Meryl Streep'!!??? what the fuck is wrong with ya'll? Then there's Ann Archer, who nobody's mentioned. Jennifer Lopez; at least one guy listed her. Cameron Diaz who rightfully has fallen off the face of "the Hollywood earth".

John Twang tops the list for notoriety, box office appeal and media hype vs. actual talent. Even Kevin Costner is better; just marginally. Samuel L. Jackson can play the same guy over again to perfection, too. Mark Ruffalo hasn't yet portrayed two different characters, either.

Will Farrell
Adam Sandler
Jim Carey
Ben Stiller
Owen Wilson
Vince Vaughan
Andy Dick

Amy Schumer
Sarah Silverman
Roseanne Barr
Meryl Streep
Barbara Streisand
Jane Fonda

That's all I can come up with right now. I'll add to the list later. It's going to be a long one.

I see Clint Eastwood and John Wayne as American Icons of cinema -- not actors. They almost always played the same role, the same way, and America loved them for it. Eastwood is an incredibly talented director, however. No doubt.

As for overrated "actors", the current crop has to include Ben Affleck and Keanu Reeves. Okay, in Reeves defence, I think he did a great job in Bill and Ted's. That portrayal struck me as very, very, authentic.

Meryl Streep also seems to always play the same character the same way. Only she's not loveable like Eastwood and Wayne. And my wife and I thought this before she opened her mouth and showed she seems like a dummy and contemptible citizen in real life.

What current actors can really deliver great acting?
Gary Oldman
Russell Crowe
and for the gals I've really been impressed with Eva Green. Though I need to see more with her.

Personally if we are talking acting ability and leaving all of their political view bullshit aside......I cannot stand anything with David Schwimmer. That guy annoys me to no end.

Except when he played Captain Herbert Sobol, commander of Easy Company in the Band of Brothers series. Sobol was relieved before they jumped into Normandy. Schwimmer nailed that role.
