True story. When in high school I worked in a chemical plant making reagents for blood analyzing machines. There was a guy who took care of the vending machines (all controlled by the rackets) and I used to visit with him when he was filling the machines. He stops showing up and the machines go empty. Fast forward a couple of years and going to college in NM and living in a fraternity house. One day I go into the laundry room where the vending machines are located and who but none other is there filling the machines. I say hello and he turns white as a ghost and tells me not to tell anyone I saw him. Couldn't understand why he panicked but finally figured out he was in witness protection.

Years ago, a coworker on the PD arrested a local University Police Officer for DUI. By the following day at the afternoon arraignment, a US Marshall shows up and has the charges dropped ( and won't tell us why ). Through one of our detectives assigned to the Marshall's Task Force we found out that the University Officer was in the Witness Protection Program and had been released to the Marshall Service and relocated to somewhere unkown. WTF ??? 🤷‍♂️
