Wrecktona 500?

I watched about the first 10 laps and the last 5. I'm glad Stewart-Haas won their first outing with Ford. Danica looked a little rough in her interview. No make up. But still not too shabby.

I had to turn it off after the Jimmie Johnson crash that took out 10 of the front pack to go to work. What's with the new format of three sections of the race?? Kinda weird. Glad to hear Stewart Haas won though. I'm a huge F1 fan and the Haas team seems to have a bright future.

I'm rapidly losing interest in all racing.... Formula 1 is kind of interesting technologically, but once you win the pole position, unless you wreck or your pit makes a mistake... you win. Noone can really 'race' any more.

And Nascar is just kind of a soap opera since they went to 'Car of the Future" and got rid of the 'Stock Car' element.

IMHO, racing is made up of three things... great driver. No brainer there. Great pit crew/crew chief with a strategy and an ability to keep the car on the road. And, last, great engineering. Of a STOCK car. And, yes, cheating when possible in the engineering phases.

Now it's stickers, helmet throwing, bad behavior and.... some racing if they get around to it.

I still want to get to LeMans (Probably in 2018) and to Isle of Mann TT. Those may be the last real 'races' left. Maybe Paris-Dakar? (now 'the Dakar?') A few years ago, I got to 24 Hours of Daytona and that, too, was pretty good. Lots of privateers and real racing.

But I really miss the NASCAR of the late '70s and early '80s... that I grew up with. That was racing.

Cheers,

Sirhr

I pretty much lost interest a few years ago. No one drives to win any more but to protect the "areo package" on their cars.i want to see them beat and bagging on each other. That's why Bristol is still one of the most popular races. And for the record, it's total bullshit to have the #3 on the track. Should have retired it.

Yeah I hear you on that. F1 has been dominated by Mercedes these last few years but I have been ignoring and paying attention to midfield where the racing is better. The best race by far was Spain last year when both Mercedes drivers crashed each other out.

I'm hoping this year changes things with some tech changes to the cars. And it's nice to have an American team to root for. Scoring 28 points last year was an awesome feat in their first year.

I can understand one's losing interest in racing too. Same thing happened to me after the late fifties, sixties and early seventies heyday. Those were pretty much real cars and the manufacturers were in a race to win races as that would trickle down to selling more cars to the public. We used to know, and that's all we lived for, all the technical aspects of the cars, especially engines.I think David Pearson and the Wood Brothers Mercury was the last thing I remember of that era.I never did get the same excitement when those days were over but I still tend to follow it somewhat. It's kinda like technology advances to such a point that it destroys the sport, at least to me. But, it's way better than fricken' basketball, football.etc, etc...

NASCAR has lost 45% of its fan base/ticket sales recently. The management has gone full retard, issuing a massive hodgepodge of new rules, mostly restrictions, in an effort to micromanage 'success' into the franchise. If anyone wonders why Carl Edwards retired abruptly, and why there were only 40 cars on the grid this week, I think we know how that came about. NASCAR management has become a bunch of control freaks.

Or..., what changed between last Daytona and this one? Mainly, the rules.

NASCAR owners team owners need to take charge and depose this current gaggle of NASCAR despots.

Watched it. A bit disappointing. The format has really changed the racing and that gives some interest to the midpoints, but I don't think it was responsible for the wreckage.

I do like that they are taking some aero away and making it more about driving, but the restrictor plate races are usually a mess. Jamie McMurray wrecked half the field and he is talented and experienced enough to know exactly what he was doing. If he did that in the 70s or 80s, he would be peeing blood this morning...but nothing will happen.

Just from my perspective:

I don't have or want to commit 3-5 hours to watch a race.
Never understood restricter plates. I thought that is what their right foot was for.
I find it difficult to keep up with all the rule/format changes.
What network is providing coverage? Seems to change throughout the season sometimes.

Never raced anything with 4 wheels, but spent 12 years racing motorcycles on dirt and asphalt. Always been a race fan in general. It does appear that NASCAR has lost its way.

So hard to watch Sober, ended up googling the monster girls and facespace stalking them. Came out of my phone 5 hours later.....
