I'm rapidly losing interest in all racing.... Formula 1 is kind of interesting technologically, but once you win the pole position, unless you wreck or your pit makes a mistake... you win. Noone can really 'race' any more.
And Nascar is just kind of a soap opera since they went to 'Car of the Future" and got rid of the 'Stock Car' element.
IMHO, racing is made up of three things... great driver. No brainer there. Great pit crew/crew chief with a strategy and an ability to keep the car on the road. And, last, great engineering. Of a STOCK car. And, yes, cheating when possible in the engineering phases.
Now it's stickers, helmet throwing, bad behavior and.... some racing if they get around to it.
I still want to get to LeMans (Probably in 2018) and to Isle of Mann TT. Those may be the last real 'races' left. Maybe Paris-Dakar? (now 'the Dakar?') A few years ago, I got to 24 Hours of Daytona and that, too, was pretty good. Lots of privateers and real racing.
But I really miss the NASCAR of the late '70s and early '80s... that I grew up with. That was racing.
Cheers,
Sirhr
