Anybody know what brand torque wrench is in the AI barrel kit? Or a suggestion for a high quality wrench for swapping barrels on the Badger? I want a nice kit but Im not paying a grand for it just so it will say AI on it.

Re: Wrench for action wrench

There is a video on youtube that shows exactly how to change the barrel on an aw and I think it gives the specs on what ft/lb torque wrench is required. I would think you could easily use a snapon, mac or even a decent one from sears if needed. I bought a snap on for torqueing my rings and bases. I would also like to know which one you choose because I have an ae coming next week.

yes sir I am aware of the video, I was wondering which brand ya'll would recommend to give the most accurate torque-ing capability.

Thanks Austin, I was thinking of getting the digitork from Sears they accuracy tolerance (+/- 3% ccw/cw) on them is better than most I've seen. I might check out home depot before I buy the one frome sears. I guy I know offered me a snap-on that's 25-250 ft/lbs for $100 I think that might be a decent way to go. Sockets aren't a problem I've got sereval sets of really high quality sockets. But, for this I'll prolly find the size I need then go buy a dedicated socket for the kit.

Re: Wrench for action wrench

I think you are a bit more concerned than needed. I have played with this a bit. If your threads are done right and nice and tight you shouldnt see any difference in headspace from 20-100 lbs. Maybe .0002-.0005 which you are not going to tell the difference unless it wasnt done correctly in the first place? Just tighten it tight enough its not going to fall off and your good. expecially for a change barrel rig. You are probably going to change more dimentionally with the wear that you put on it taking it on and off then you will torquing it. That why on a change barrel rig less is more.

Jason and Austin thanks guys. I guess I'll just get a decent wrench and not stress about it.

Re: Wrench for action wrench

The best way to go about it(at least in my opinion) is to let your smith know it is a change barrel set up and you will be changing barrels on it. They can then record the torque they use when headspacing and you just set your wrench to that. 3-5lbs either way will make NO difference. I just like to set a change barrel rig with less torque because of the on off factor. If it is never coming off you can get a monkey to hang off the wrench and never wory about it again.

That takes some "Stones"!!!

Re: Wrench for action wrench

well I'm glad you got so much help. I was gonna get back to you and suggest Craftsman for the money and intended use. That snap-on with that much range is probably a smokin deal for $100 if it's not out of clibration.
