Dose anybody know if the WSM line of cartridges uses the same bolt face as the WSSM line? Or to put it another way, can a take an action in 300WSM and put a new barrel on it in 243WSSM with out having to make any modifications to the action?

I think they are the same.
I have a 300 wsm, 25 wssm, 243 wssm, 223 wssm, and am getting a 7 wsm, and they all take the same shell holder.

If you are not married to your bolt, you can do ALOT better by replacing the WSM bolt with a .473 bolt and using a regular .243 or .243 AI or one of the MANY other 6mm choices. Plus good luck finding wssm brass in the future--if I am not mistaken, wssm was at best, a fad, and on its way out.
In addition, by moving away from the wssm, you will have better options if you ever want to mag feed.
If you really want to make the most of the WSM bolt, look at the 7wsm.
Good luck with your build no matter what you chose.

Be carefull of the change. Getting the WSSM to feed properly can be tricky. If they keep shortening the ctg. cases, very soon we'll be trying to feed round balls out of a magazine box!
