WTF Ranges in the Houston Area Over 300 Yards

I am looking for ranges to shoot in excess of 300 yards within 60 miles of downtown Houston. I am open to joining a private club. The only place I have found is Bayou Rifles. I would appreciate any other places Hide members can suggest.

Thanks,

Martin

There's a good one out west near Katy that goes to 1000, if I recall. Not too far from the Bass Pro shop in the AO.

Quite a few of us are members at Bayou, and the range is top notch. I would also look at ASC (near Katy), but they top out at 600 and don't allow NFA items.

I wish that we had some public land to shoot on similar to California, Alaska, and Montana.

Thanks guys for the info. ASC’s website is incomplete; it only shows ranges out to 300 yards, thanks for the correct info. Bayou Rifles website says they do not allow “Any firearm or device that requires a tax stamp from the BATF to own or use.” Exceptions to this rule require approval of the Board of Directors. Have members been able to obtain exceptions for NFA items such as silencers?

The way I read the no NFA rule, a machine gun even if only used in semi-auto mode would be prohibited too, as would a short barrel rifle such as an AR-15 even if it was used with a 16-inch plus upper. Thoughts?

As long asnyou have your tax stamp, and appeal to the board, they will allow suppressors and SBR's. You can forget about fully automatic weapons. It's a great range, and you don't have the numbskulls that populate ASC.

Thanks for the insight into how Bayou Rifles handles NFA items. I had been trying to decide on weather to apply for membership at Bayou Rifles. The information you all have provided has helped. They look like the place to be.

You were probably looking for benches, they end at 300...
