Rifle Scopes WTH is up with Leupold's QC? Finish on my new VX-R

Just unboxed/unwrapped this VX-R about 5 minutes ago. Look at the warn areas. Magnification ring felt a little grainy too. Cabelas already sent a new one out to me. I am boxing this one back up now.

I would be willing to bet that was a demo scope. Probably used in a cabelas showroom. the wear looks consistent with a glass display case shelf...

they already shipped a new one out to me before I even boxed this one back up. they tried to give me $35 off and keep this one but I said no way. I am surprised they would shrink wrap a demo scope and send it out.

That scope was not packed correctly in the factory box, the abrasion you see was caused by movement during shipment/transportation, cardboard will abrade most things that are aloud to continuously rub against it.
