WTK:
I shot a 18inx25in steel plate @ 1,520yrds. With my TRG 42 300. WM.
It had a 16x Mark 4.
I shot 3x missing ( thought it was 1,500) them made changes.
Hit it 5 out of the next 11 times.
When done, took GPS back and ranged 1,520yrds.
... Is this a long shot for the 300WM or just avarge?
I just got it. I have been shooting 1,000-1,100yrds. With
my GAP built 308.
.....Not bragging, just wanted 2 know, if I need to go back with my steel.

Thank you for your time,
Mike

Anything over 1000 is a long way in my book. That said, I used to shoot 1550yds regularly with my 300WM before I sold it. On a calm day I could hit my 24" circle target about 8-10 times outta ten shots. Those figures went down hill fast when the wind picked up and did not stay constant. I think that 5 hits outta 11 shots is doing good, just keep launching the lead and you will get better. Hell, some people couldn't hit at that distance with a case of shells!! Good Job!!!

Re: WTK: 1,520yrds. With 300. WM

Thanks guys,
the wind was my biggest prob.
I was shooting from a ridge, across a valley, on to a flat.
The flat set in the middle of 2 hills. The wind speed was around
4-6 mph. + what was comming up out of the valley.
I'm going 2 go back 2 1,550yrds. That is the limit of
my adjustments.

Thanks for you insite,

Mike

Good shooting.
I Hit at 1,765 yards with my 300 WM.My first 4 shots missed then hit with my last attempt. Target was 24"x36". The wind was half value at 10 m/hr and gusting to 15.I can't wait to try it again then I'm going for 2000 yard shot

Re: WTK: 1,520yrds. With 300. WM

Damn...I'd love to get a chance to shoot in winds at 4-6. There's a Pacific front coming through today, and the weather guessers are calling for gusts from 30 to 50.

But I'm not shooting at 1k, either. 200 is tough enough for me with constant winds at 20 gusting 30.

LOL, I feel your pain hink. I would love to get to shoot in 4-6mph winds even sometimes. Do you stretch out to 1,000? I'm not too far from you, I have places we can shoot that are about midway between Lubbock and Amarillo west of Plainview. LOL, we'll have to go out when it's not 20 gusting 30, then you're just wasting bullets.

RL22 with a 208 AMAX in my 300 WM. Shot out to 1550 yards with pretty decent winds. Will try longer. Like most mentioned above, if the wind picks up a bit, your chance of hitting target at those ranges are pretty slim to none.

Can you post a link to that, I'd like to see it...

OP- I think 1500 is a long shot with just about anything short of the ELR calibers like the 375, 408, or 50 bmg. If you hit it a bunch of times, good for you and keep shooting. When it gets boringly easy to hit at a specific distance it's time to move the target out more.

When you can make consistent 1st or 2nd round hits, it's definitely time to stretch the legs more.

Re: WTK: 1,520yrds. With 300. WM

Tomcat,

I agree with you about not wasting bullets. Even when reloading, there's too much investment in time and money to just go out and blast away for no good reason.

The weather thursday was great for shooting, at least here. Too bad somebody's got to pay the bills. One of these days when the weather makes a call to stay warm, I'll have to take you up on your offer. The local ranges only reach out to 200 yards....

Re: WTK: 1,520yrds. With 300. WM

I shot my 300WM at just over 1800yrd down at CVT when Vern still had the mountain to go shoot on. It still held sub min. even at that distance. What a thrill that was for me.

I'm working on a build. Have M-24 stock, Remington long action, Mark 4 fixed 16 pwr. Thinking 338 RUM. May not be a Lapua, but
it should be somewhat close with handloads. Anybody got a better idea ?
