If a WTO swichlug for a curtis axiom is purchased, can prefit barrels still be used? It looks like the barrel shoulders against lug. Does the barrel need to be turned specifically for the switchlug so that a portion of the shank goes inside the lug so that when the screw is tightened it has something to bite on?

I figured that. In my mind it would have to be that way. That makes it a no/go for me. I do not see the reasoning for the switchlug then. Buy a prefit and now have to get the barrel turned down for the lug.
thanks

The reasoning is so that you don’t need anything more than a small wrench for the cross screw to swap a barrel. You buy the switchlug prefit barrel like you buy any other prefit barrel. Unless you meant you had already bought a normal prefit. In which case, yeah, shoot that up before goin switchlug.

Yep, it takes me probably a minute at most to switch my barrels. All I need is a torque head bit and torque wrench for 30 ft lbs.

Like spife said like any other prefit, after getting dimensions from action the first time when the switch lug got installed all I have to do is order a barrel from WTO now.

You don’t buy a prefit and get it turned down, you buy a barrel and have it shipped to WTO or buy an in stock barrel from WTO and have it cut for you action and shipped to you.

In my opinion it’s one of the best switch barrel set ups because you do not have to remove the chassis or anything from the rifle and no barrel vise.

I know that WTO will retrofit your current barrel to mate with the switchlug when you send your rig in for the switchlug mod. Pretty reasonable price too... especially if you're going switchlug to preserve a match barrel for plinking/training or whatever. I haven't taken the plunge yet... this is just knowledge from my conversations with them. I plan on doing the mod on my next rifle.

I believe for some actions (ie Origin or Axiom etc) a prefit can be made w/o the action in hand. My smith wanted it first time because i was having two made on an action he was new with. Turned out excellent!
