However, a few thoughs on titanium:
I love Ti, it is an amazing material, but not without its own issues. While it is about 2/3 the weight of steel, it is also only 2/3 the stiffness. The strongest alloys of Ti (like 6AL4V) are stronger than weak and moderate alloys of steel, but strong alloys of steel are far, far stronger than Ti. Consider that Allvac C350 steel has a UTS of 350ksi! Amazing!
Another point is that Ti tends to gall when it is rubbed against things with force. I'd be curious to hear Marks experience with the lug abutment surfaces and the locking lugs on the bolt. I would *expect* them to tend to gall. The C6 Z06 corvette uses Ti connecting rods and GM had a helluva time getting them to be reliable, as the big ends would gall as they rubbed together - and that is a well oiled joint with fairly low relative motion and force. At GM Racing, first thing we'd do was ditch those rods for steel Carillo ones.
Not trying to dis Titanium - just pointing out its Achilles heels. </div></div>
The good news is a wristpin moves as much in 3 minutes as a rifle bolt in a lifetime....lol. I hear you though, I love ti rem actions for building light hunters, but the bolt always feels like crap compared to steel on steel.
