x54r Mosin Nagant Barrel Replacment Barrel Lenth

Re: x54r Mosin Nagant Barrel Replacment Barrel Lenth

Spend your money on something else. Buy a Rem 700 SPS Varmint at least thats a good jumping off point. The mosin would make a great tomato cage post though.

Wrong forum for your question . Mosin is a bad word here .
In truth , Mosins are not even on the same league as the weapons that are commonly referred here .

Why is Mosin a bad word around here?

Because the gear queer types are absolutely insistent that no cheap foreign made mil-surp could ever be rebuilt into a decent precision rifle. It's a waste of time and impossible - doesn't matter if someone has done it, it's impossible and not worth doing and impossible. And it's not worth a gunsmith's time to work on, and so forth.

A 7.62x54r pretty much splits the energy difference between a .308 win and a .30-06. 24in barrels served the Marine Corps from 1906 with the adoption of the M1903 to the recent decision to cycle in the M40A5's to be cut down to 20in. Personally I'd opt for 24-26 if I were building one. You can always part some off later and recrown.

Here's a guy that achieved some impressive results with a unissued UK-59 machine gun barrel.

Lot of good info in this .pdf on the subject of rebuilding a mosin. (Lothar-Walther barrel, Huber trigger, Richards Microfit stock)
