I've set my adjustable cheekpiece to the correct height for my scope but could use a little bit of off axis adjustment. The XLR tactical buttstock doesn't provide for adjustment in this direction, but I could cant the entire assembly slightly off axis to get better shoulder pocket fit and achieve the cheek weld. Is this a terrible idea?

    You can totally do that.

If you have a older Tactical "LITE" buttstock with only 1 recoil pad plate, yes you can purchase the duel plate conversion kit which will then allow cant adjustment just in the recoil pad.
If you have a Tactical buttstock as you quoted or the new TR-2 buttstock the cant adjustment plate is already on there. Don't hesitate to call us if you can't figure out how to adjust this.
