Rifle Scopes XTR II 1-8x SFP vs Vudu 2.5-10x FFP with red dot for Recce

Hey all. I currently have a Burris XTR II 1-8x SFP on my 14" 5.56 recce (built kinda as a Mod H style gun). I really like the optic, except I wish that I had more magnification and a more precise aiming point. That is all I feel that it is missing. The reticule is super bright which I like.

I'm considering Vudu 2.5-10x FFP to get a little more magnification and a better experience at higher magnification, combined with an offset RMR so that I have 1x capability.

I am wondering what you guys think?

Also does anyone have any experience with the FFP XTR II 1-8x vs the SFP and can speak to the 1x eye box and reticle brightness?

What other optics should I consider? I want more magnification and a finer dot, but would love to keep low end capability as well!

Wow thanks so much, those look great! What other optics could you compare the brightness to? An aimpoint perhaps or a Viper or Razor? I am curious as to whether or not the reticule is bright enough on 1x to be used in a sort of red dot fashion. Also do you think I would gain much in terms of 8x reticule precision by going with the FFP over the SFP. From Burris' documentation the SFP has a 0.15 mil wide/tall crosshair, while the FFP XTR II has a 0.10 mil dot.

It's definitely not as bright as my Razor but it's still quite visible. It helps having the circle instead of just a center dot. This is 1X out of my window this morning:

Would you say it is bright enough to be visible if aimed into/onto an area/surface that is directly illuminated by midday sun? How is the 1x eyebox?
The fine dot on 8x looks to be just the ticket I need for more precise repeatable point of aim.

Do you have a dollar threshold? The Vortex G3 Razor 1-10 is the perfect Recce/spr type optic. True daylight bright aimpoint like on 1x and a great tree reticle for making quick shots at higher power.

I have a couple of the Bushnell 4.5-18 LRHS on DMR type guns and a TA30A2 (Mk4 2.5-8) on a MK12. I would take the razor over both of them, the advantages on low power are too good.

I absolutely would consider the G3 Razor except I wanted at least an exposed elevation turret. I understand that the reticule on that optic is meant to be used just with holds, but I also want the ability to dial in. Also the center dot is kind of thick, isn't it?

Have you considered the nightforce NX8?

If you want more magnification and to maintain the 1x bottom range the Valdada 1-10x26 is always out there.


I have a vudu 5-25x50 on my 308 and I think that it's a great optic but the whole eyepiece turning for zoom is annoying if you want to run flip caps. I love the turrets, CA is there but that's because the 5-25x50 is so short.

You might also consider a March compact 1-10x if you are open to another SFP scope or an NXS 2.5-10x42 since you mentioned going away from the 1x bottom range.

So the March 1-10x options look interesting, but I'm curious as to how bright the illumination is on them? In that price range I would probably just go with a Gen III Razor 1-10x with known performance.

The NX8 interests me, but the small exit pupil and eye box turn me off. I like large eye boxes, especially for 1x optics. Also the thicker reticule is EXACTLY what I'm trying to get away from. My current ret in the XTR II 1-8x is a 0.15 mil crosshairs. The Vudu 2.5-10x has a 0.07 mil wide crosshair, and the XTR II FFP has a 0.10 mil dot.

The Valdada is a bit outside my price range.

The NF NXS 2.5-10x42 does seem very interesting, but it is similar to the Vudu 2.5-10x while I can get the Vudu for a good deal, and get FFP. The NXS however is MUCH lighter and has adjustable parallax. I can't quite figure out how thick the crosshairs are though. The NF Mil-R reticule page doesn't seem to include that info.

March is definitely quality stuff but I can't find much info on how bright the illumination is, probably more than bright enough, I can tell you that my VUDU is not the brightest. I would personally buy the March over the razor but that's probably just because I want a March in my safe.

The Vudu is just so heavy.
