I'm looking for any info on the Yankee Hill Q.D muzzle brake. I'm wondering how effective the brake is on recoil, and if any retailers sell the brake, I've only seen it available on YHM's website.

I did use the advanced search. I searched "YHM QD brake, and "Yankee Hill Muzzle Brake" but mostly came up with info on the suppressor, rather then the brake itself.

I am going to get a YHM suppressor but not for a few more months. Thanks for any info!

Re: Yankee Hill Q.D. Muzzle Brake

IMHO, it isn't really a brake as much as a QD mount/flash hider. I have a couple on rifles (one 308 and one 300WM) and I can't really tell any reduction in recoil or muzzle rise. The ones I use are the 762 Phantom QD flash hider as described on their web site as this:
Phantom 7.62 Flash Hider for our Sound Suppressor
This flash hider is used for our fast-attach sound suppressor (Patent Pending). It retains the excellent flash hiding capabilities of the original Phantom. Designed for a 5/8"-24 Right-Hand thread as well as a 9/16"-24 Left-Hand thread for the FAL. This flash hider WILL NOT accommodate our 5.56 Sound Suppressor.

I have the Y.H. QD on several AR's and there is no difference from a standard AR flash suppressor from the Yankee Hill. I use them so I can switch my Y.H. can from gun to gun easily.

When mountiing your QD, use a pipe thread locking compound and when threading on so that the holes are oriented down on the QD. With the compound on you ten do not have to torque the QD down and can avoid stressing the barrel.

Huh...what?

Are you saying this (556 YHM QD Mount)

Looks like this (Phantom Flash hider)

or this (Standard A2 FH) Not a good pic but you get the idea.

And as far as I know you don't time the QD mount, but the FH you can useing a crush washer.

Yep those are alot nicer than the YHM ones. To bad they never made a 308 cal either.

Nut, I believe he is referring to this one:

I would personally not use a crush washer to time any muzzle device that would be used with a suppressor...which I assume the op is interested in since he is asking about the Q.D. version. If so desired, I believe you can use peel washers to time devices for use with suppressors. I have the regular Q.D. YHM phantoms, but I don't use any peel washers or crush washers with them. YMMV
