Gunsmithing YHM QD brake timing

I have a YHM Phantom 338 to go on the Savage 338 I have on order, the barrel is already threaded 5/8-24 for the brake that is on the gun. The YHM uses a quick detach system with a muzzle brake, I know Im going to have to time the brake, do you see any problems with shaving material off the brake face instead of cutting the shoulder on the barrel?

Id rather the factory brake still be able to be installed on the gun if I so desired, so I guess its really my only option aside from shims.

Did you ever find a solution? I'm wondering the same thing right not. Peel washer seems most likely to me.

I ended up turning the brake down a few thousandths
