Suppressors YKM thread protector doesn't fit

Guys I just had my barrel threaded , 30 cal, standard 5/8-24. I purchased a YKM stainless steel protector and it won't screw on past a turn. I have an adapter for my Grendel from Tros USA that takes a 9/16-24 to 5/8-24 and that thread protector screws on no problem!

What's wrong? The YKM threads fine onto the Tros USA adapter with no problem. The Tros is black and thin, otherwise I would just leave it on there while I await my can.

Should I worry about my Can not threading on?

Take it the barrel to a smith or machinist that knows what they are doing. Have them guage the threads with go and no-go gauges. Do not put your can on until the threads have been verified. Is the barrel stainless by chance?

Yes.

Those thread protectors are made on a CNC lathe and the threads are single-point cut (not tapped). They are checked with a thread gage.

I have personally measured my muzzle threads with a calibrated Mitutoyo pitch micrometer, and are .0002" shy of the maximum permissible PD for a Class 3A thread, and the YHM protector threaded on snugly, but smoothly. I didn't have to force it, but there was zero slop once there was an entire thread of engagement.

I'd guess your muzzle threads are not in spec.

I'd bet the fellow that did your muzzle threading does not own a pitch mic. I'll bet he used a muzzlebrake or something he had lying around threaded 5/8-24 and cut your muzzle until it fit...

most likely what had happened is he just threaded it and didn't use a pitch mic. Bummer, I will have to wait until the CAN comes and see what happens at the Moment of Truth.

For what is worth, I would NOT try to thread your can on if the barrel threads are questionable. Stainless is prone to galling as it is, much less if the threads are oversize. You could possible get the can stuck and/or damage your can. Ask me how I know.....

Get the threads checked. In the long run, you will same time, heartache and possibly ALOT of money.
