CBS Chicago reports that around 11:30 p.m. Friday, Anthony Miranda walked up to a car and asked the driver for a lighter. The driver said he didn't have one, and Miranda allegedly pulled a handgun and demanded money.

Police say even after the driver gave up his money, Miranda told him to get out of the car. While Miranda's attention strayed for a moment, the victim grabbed control of the gun, causing Miranda to shoot himself in the ankle.

Officers say the victim told them he is a martial arts expert and ultimate fighter. He was able to pin Miranda down until law enforcement arrived, finding the robber with cuts and bruises on his face. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

According to police, Miranda is a convicted felon. He is charged with armed robbery and aggravated discharge of a firearm. As of Sunday, he was being held on $350,000 bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office.

Screw that, it's illegal for <span style="font-style: italic"> anyone</span> to own a handgun in Chitcago, despite McDonald v. Chicago.

I love it when the bad guys get what they deserve! Here's a similar story of something that happened the other day in a nearby town.

SILVER LAKE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Just before 3:30 PM Friday afternoon Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call of “shots fired” at a home along State Road 14 in Silver Lake.

When officers arrived they found residents Billy Sloan and Sue Drake at the roadway edge, along with a B.B. gun, broken rolls of coins and a pool of blood. During the investigation officers were told that Sloan and Drake had just returned from a shopping trip and was ambushed. The male suspect, who had a shotgun, forced Sloan down to the ground. Drake then walked into the home and witnessed what was going on and began hitting the suspect in the head with a salt/ pepper shaker while the suspect and Sloan wrestled for control of the shotgun.

During the altercation, the shotgun was discharged twice and eventually retrieved by Sloan who chased the burglary suspect out of the residence. Sloan stated that the suspect subsequently pulled out a handgun as he was running at which point Sloan fired the 12 gauge shotgun striking the suspects legs. The suspect then crawled into an arriving pickup truck driven by a female and began to flee the scene but not before Sloan shot-out the rear passenger side tire with the shotgun.

A short time later officers where alerted of the whereabouts of the suspect and his get-away driver. Aaron Michael Rhoades, 28, of Pierceton was located with a head wound and a gunshot wound to his legs. Karen Gail Prater, 34, of Claypool was also located at the residence and later confessed to her involvement with the incident.
