when i first brought this idea up to hide members every one freaked... lol in my mind even i was a little uneasy about it.

the big issue was it would look ugly or the smith would mess it up and ruin my slide. Well i have been interested in front serrations for close to 5 years, so when a hide member mentioned a guy by the name of Matt Cheely I checked out the guys web sight and all the custom work he has done on 1911's and some of it was just mind blowing, so i figured if any one could do it he could.

As you all know i was going for the early version mk23 look I believe that as the Mk 23 mod-o that had the front serrations milled into the slide. Any way after a vary uneasy nervy week matt shot me an email with this pic, not sure if the other side of the slide is done or not but i would imagine this will be at my doore by this saturday.

When i receive it i will shoot a few more pix and keep this thread updated with my progress from start to finish.

well here is a before and after, sorry that compairing the two isnt the best i never planed on doing a before and after so i had to scroll threw old pix i took

I honestly cannot wait to get it in my hands the job looks so awesome once it comes in the mail ill shoot more pix and then sent it to get refinished and then pix of it totally assembled

edit:

after viewing this pic i am with matt angles seem to match right on

Ps: Matt did an awesome job despite my emails where i told him thinking about him milling into my slide was making me light headed lol... i did bug him a little but he handled it well hahaha

PIC UPDATE 1/18/11

came in the mail today and matt is right, definitly an optical illusion going on, as they also look wider then the back ones, but my calipers say they are both the same width, he did EXACTLY what i wanted him to do, if i ever need any pistol work done like this again matt will be my go to guy

well the slide is off now to KG, thanks matt

well i asked him to do that how ever maybe the slide is on an angle or maybe he got as close as he could with his vice or mill head. not sure but iam happy

and i think i spent about 68 bucks or 65 with return shipping

The angle does match. It's an optical illusion. I indicated the vise angle with the rear cuts.

i was thinking the same thing... it seems the silver is playing tricks against the black of the slide or something

Re: you said not to but i did, pimp my usp

The angle on the forward serrations appear to match up with the rear serrations to me...I think that the differences in finish and generally bad lighting/angle on the pics is what's giving the erroneous impression that the serration angles don't match up.

I will be anxious to see what it looks like once the slide gets refinished, reassembled and reinstalled on the frame (you know...the sum is greater than its parts)! I still don't particularly care for the forward serrations on the pistol (at this point), but if you are pleased, James...that is all that really matters.

One other thought...have you tried this pistol with your can yet? I only ask because I realize from the pic that your Meps are the low-profile ones and don't look high enough to clear the OD of the suppressor. Are you replacing the sights with taller ones?

i only shot about a box of rounds threw the gun with factory sights and my suppressor then switched to the mepros, i will never go back to tall sights again, i hate them. i can shoot just fine with my can on and the low sights, my evo seems to just barely be visible when i shoot.

If i could do it again how ever i would have got the trijicons. well i should have the slide by this saturday and then i will assemble the gun just to have an over all look at it and then off to the refinishers which shouldnt take no more then a few days to a week tops

i am really pleased with moly-resin. from the ease of application, appearance and durability, i see no reason to switch to another finish.

Another vote for Norell's

I've done many slides and several rifles. Easy to apply and seems to be every bit as durable as Gun-Kote.

I like KG because there is no mixing. You go from the can to the gun and whatever isn't used goes back in the can. Once it is baked, I would bet it is just as durable as the others.

Re: you said not to but i did, pimp my usp

Paint it pink. with green night sights, that are a little bit more dim and then clean it 3 times a days with trans fluid/sulphuric acid mix. I called numerous pistol companies and they said it was legit. Do NOT forget to be wearing the condor plate carrier while cleaning you do not want to take an inadvertent brass brush to the chest or worst case your antique suppressor blow up from its lack of baffles due to obsessive cleaning!!!!
