Re: Your thoughts on "Bear Coat" Finish
If you are looking for a home-applied finish, look at the Brownells aerosol coatings. I like the Teflon Moly finish and have it on several rifles and handguns.
It is best to blast the action with aluminum oxide to give the finish a rough surface to bond to, but since I don't have a blast cabinet at this time, I use 100 grit sandpaper. The finish is solid for a working gun and sheds water like a duck's back.
Be sure to THOROUGHLY degrease the surfaces before application and if you are coating an action, leave it in the oven for a couple of hours. The heavy parts(barrel/action) need more cure time.
