I am seriously considering trading in my Walther P22 (grip is a bit small for my hands) for one of these Ruger 22/45 Lites. Anyone have any experience with them? I have been looking at the BlackLite specifically. Any responses would be very much appreciated! Thanks

I had one and they shoot just fine but they are a real pain in the ass to tear apart and put back together. The first time is a real pain in the ass and it really doesn't get much easier unless you do it several times. The Mark 1 and 2 are a pain as well but I would take one of those two over the 22/45 lite or Mark 3 any day. I ended up selling mine and got a S&W MP 22 and I am much happier with it. Not as quite as the Mark 2 with a can but a sold shooter and 100 times easier to take apart. My advice is steer clear of it and find a Mark 1 or 2.

Wow I wasn't expecting any negative comments. I do know that they are a pain to get apart! Thank you very much for the advice! I may look into the M&P! Thanks

Other than the disassembly and reassembly its not a bad little gun. Also the other thing that drove me nuts was the magazine release. They are a pain in the ass to get out but can be fixed with a little work. They function just fine and shoot well so don't be afraid of one. I just found it to have to many things I personally didn't like. You may love it. Maybe try to find one and test drive it first and go from there.

I have one and love it. It shoots cheap bulk ammo with no problem and drives tacks with CCI mini mags. I just clean the action, chamber and a pull thru for the barrel, I don't take ruger 22's apart, they are a pain to put back together.

I have a Ruger 22/45 bull barrel SS model for over 20 years and it has been an excellent pistol. You can get past the cleaning take down by practice. I also just got the black Lite version with the threaded barrel and it works great. Perfect for a suppressor host. Go a head a check this site out below. Makes for cleaning much easier. I would not hesitate to get one. I also have the P22 for the wife, but she has said she loves the grip on the 22/45 Lite.

Well, if you like the Walther and how it feels, then try the SR22. I bought one two weeks ago and took it to the range today to see how it would do. Here is one target:

I ran four different kinds of ammo through it, eighty rounds total, without one malfunction. I especially like the decock function on the gun. It also came with two magazines.

Here is a picture of my Ruger SR22R:

I have large hands, and don't feel as though I don't have enough grip to hold onto. The rear sight is adjustable for both windage and elevation. The magazines came with two flat base plates and two finger rest base plates. It's a tough .22 caliber pistol. It also comes with two different size grips that are large and small...I have the large one installed.

I'd seriously recommend a Browning Buckmark for general purpose target shooting and also a hunting option as well. They're easy to strip down, VERY accurate, and you can swap around barrels very easily without having to do an FFL transfer each time. There's many grip options out there too so you can find what works right for your hands.

I think I am almost sold on a M&P22, still considering the Ruger however. Need to get rid of my P22 before anything actually happens I guess. How are the M&P and Ruger on reliability? Are they picky about what is shot thru them?

I recently picked up a 22/45. Out of the box the trigger is HORRIBLE, and magazines won't drop free. With the crapola trigger pull it still shoots good groups. I bought the Volquartsen competition sear and hammer bushing. $30 from Midwayusa...I installed the components yesterday in 20 minutes following a "diy youtube" video made by somebody-"rook." I'll have to check my history to find the video again. My father in law was watching...he's disassembled and reassembled one with only a manual and said that it took hours. He said he couldn't believe how easy it seemed with someone demonstrating. It was my first time ever field stripping a Ruger Mark 22/45, let alone removing internal components, and I would rate it at an "easy" level, now having been led through it.

The 22/45 definitely wins as far as aftermarket parts support and avenues of upgrade. Mags are common and easy to buy locally...I sourced 5 of them prior to my CCW class locally, and this was last month! I also like the fact that the 22/45's that are factory threaded correctly for a suppressor and don't require some gay adapter like the P22, 1911-22's, conversions, and I assume the M&P22. I owned a P22 briefly and couldn't have been happier to dump it, "Jam-0-Matic" was an understatement. I don't know anything about the M&P22 except that if you own an M&P already, I guess it makes sense from a muscle memory standpoint.

I'd go with the 22/45. Removable grips are a must. Avoid the earlier generation where they were molded into the frame. Whoever has accuracy issues with their's needs to send it back to Ruger for a fix. Of all recommendations I received from Bullseye competitors at our club, most recommended the gun to me for competition, and none had a negative comment about them. The usual comment was that you could spend more (sw41, Marvel unit 1, Hammerli) but why would you want to when you can tune a Ruger to shoot with any of the other pistols at a fraction of the cost.

I like mine...but I also like accurate, reliable, easy-to-upgrade firearms with lots of aftermarket support. YMMV. I'm in no way affiliated with Ruger, just a happy owner.
