I just got a Zeiss LRP S5 and I have a question about the turrets.

The elevation turret on mine doesn't feel nearly as good as the windage turret. The windage turret is very tactile and audible, you can feel each click thunk into place.

My elevation turret is barely audible and the clicks aren't nearly as positive as the windage.

What do your S5 turrets feel like?

I contacted them and they want me to send it in. It feels like the turret has too much grease in it.
One thing you could try: If the Zeiss has the standard tiny hex screws that hold the turret cap on, then loosen them and pop off the cap. You might see a bunch of grease inside the cap. Try wiping that off and reinstalling.

Might save you the hassle. I can’t remember what scope I had that this trick helped, and it’s not really clear to me why it worked, but it’s so easy to do it’s worth a shot.

It's got those screws like most other euro scopes. Will i mess anything up by taking the turret off? Some mfgs advise against it.

I’m not sure. My PST II scope’s turrets pop right off, and my NF NX8 4-32 ones do too.

Here’s the NF manual showing that you pop them off to adjust the zero stop.

Edit: well, just checked the Zeiss S5 318 & 525 manual and it said ominously, “The elevation turret shall not be removed. It is only to be loosened for rotational adjustment to set the Ballistic Stop feature.”

Ah well.

Yeah I thought i read something to that effect in the manual, but I wasn't sure.

The windage turret is probably the best turret I've ever felt. I'm going to keep using the Zeiss for a couple weeks and see if the elevation turret improves.
You think its actually going to heal itself....???

If it was me, I'd send it to them and tell them to make it right.

Best of luck
