I'm looking to purchase one of these in the very near future. The Zeiss PFR or the Leica Rangemaster 1000 (or maybe the 1600). It's use will be mainly varmint hunting.

I'd like to hear about any experiences you may have had with these products.

Re: Zeiss or Leica Rangefinder

If you can swing it go with the vectronix terrapin. I upgraded to a leica from a lupey because it didn't do what I thought it should. Leica did better but still didn't cut it. Vectronix is much better. Good luck

Re: Zeiss or Leica Rangefinder

At what distances are you guys ranging? Just curious because I've been looking into the Leica but because of your reviews, I'm thinking I might need to hold off and wait for the cash for one of these Vectronixs. I've found Leicas for around $700 but these are topping the scales at $2k. And if you're talking about ranging things beyond 1000 meters, I won't need that capability in the woods of Western Maryland where 600 yard shots are about as far as I'd ever need to go.

Re: Zeiss or Leica Rangefinder

I've had a Leica 1200 that I sold to upgrade to the Leica 1600. Excellent rangefinders, do everything that I've needed them to. Had no problems ranging out to 900+ meters on the 1200 and have ranged 1300+ meters on the 1600. Well worth the $.

I've used a Zeiss for a year or so and have been pleased with its ability to range deer/ coyotes out to 940 yds(furthest opp. I've had). I've ranged buildings to 1250 on clear blue sky days. It's a good unit for the money, easy to use, with good glass. I'd buy one again.

Re: Zeiss or Leica Rangefinder

+1 on the Zeiss. I use one strictly for ranging after miling with a reticle, to make i'm correct, and on range days. As stated above, if it's got a good reflective surface, like white paint, I've went as far as 1250 yards on a 24" x 18" square plate.
