Ever have one of those days when you were just in the zone? Well today was one of those days. Now this group isn't what you'd call "tight" until you consider the wicked ass winds. We measured 5-12 at the shooting station which easily translates to 15-20 or more at the top of the arc, and they were intermittent and changing direction constantly. I almost couldn't miss today. I cold bored my 850 shot and only missed maybe 5 shots out of 60 to my amazement. This was my last 10 round target having to use a slightly different wind hold on practically every shot. I almost let one get away at the bottom...

That right there is what all the fuss is about. All the research and practice is worth it when you start swinging the hammer and having things fall into place with measurable difficulty.

Today was likely the most difficult wind conditions I've seen. Add to that a shooting lane only about 50 yards wide lined with pines and the wind does strange things when it drops off the top of the trees. Its like correcting for 2 different winds in the lane...crosswind up high and a headwind in your face. Definately interesting shooting today.

This is a 40 round group with the Barrett 98B. No misses. Since the .338 won't get pushed off the plate by the wind I just held center and let the chips fall. I think there's only maybe 18 rounds or so that aren't in the black out of 40.

Damn. 2 weekends in a row. 1st target of the day. Clean cold bore rounds are the 2 at the 6 inch mark on the tape. Group measured 6 1/4 inches at 850 yards. 8 shot group. That's dmack holding the tape.

Now this is one of those targets you just want to kick yourself afterwards for...

My goal today was to get accurate final dope for an upcoming match. I set steel at 600 and 850 and this paper at 300. I only loaded 3 rounds into the mag and popped them off just to dope check it and to my astonishment the group came in at just under an inch. So I'm thinking to myself...

Self...you should load a mag with 2 more rounds to get that elusive 5 shot sub-1/3 minute group at 300 yards. As you can see, I am a freakin dumbass that got too cocky, forgot what breaking your cheek weld/firing position can do, and completely SHANKED those next two rounds. That said, those 1st 3 rounds are impressive for a gas gun at that distance.

I was right beside BA for both of these. I spotted for him on his cold group at 850. Damn impressive shooting! As for the paper... Yeah, he sat up, loaded two more and BAM!

Great shooting today Brother... I will be on my game next time.

    I have to get a GAP-10.

    Re: Zen

It was an excellent day my friend. There's nothing like having the range to yourself. And yea...you were a little "off" today but I've seen you when you're "on" so I'll keep my smartass comments to myself

DMack, did you run a screen on Dave for performance enhancing drugs?

Great shooting Dave. Though I can't say I'm surprised having shot with you a few times.

It goes without saying, I like that Barrett target the best. I've got 250 rounds of 338LM reloaded and ready for the next trip to BSF.

    Re: Zen

Heh heh...I was sniffing gunpowder all morning.

We missed you out there Jax. We had the entire range to ourselves. Even the front shooting lines were empty. Don't know if it has something to do with football season or what but it was nice. A lot less wind than the previous weekend when you and I were out. We did get swarmed by love bugs though. Clouds of them. Got back to the house and those damn things were in my gearbags and everywhere else.

I'll be waiting to see if you can come up with a good load for that thing.
