Ok, I am pretty new to long range shooting (ok med range 100-600 current range access). I have a 6.5 Tikka CTR that splits duty between hunting and range. Hunting I like to use the 143 ELDx but like to plink with the American Gunner 140 since it good enough for out to 600 and cheaper. It would be easier just to shoot always with the eldx but I want to shoot more so I like cheaper. With family and kids I do not have time to learn how to or to reload.

How do yall track or switch between rounds with out changing your zero. Do you just true the other round in the software to match your actual hits? Ballistic AE has a feature that allows you to chose a round then offset (that might not be the best term) the trajectory of your current selected round to your zeroed load. I have not used this enough to know if it works well or not. Also, just got Strelok Pro which is highly recommended here but it does not have that feature.

I am just starting to gather dope out to 600.

Just wanting some input because I do not know.

Current Process that I am thinking about doing:
    Step 1:ELDx
Confirm Zero and record all data.
    Confirm Dope out to 600
True my BC with actual data out to 600 (Strelok only allows one distance for truing vs up to 5 for ballistic, I assume this is no big deal)
Save as eldx Zero Trued favorite

    Step 2: American Gunner
Confirm off set if any at 100 yrd zero
    Confirm dope out to 600
True by BC to match data
Save as Gunner (w/ eldx zero) trued

Is this common? Or am i doing this all wrong.

So I run two different ammos with my 338lm. I set the zero stop at the zero for the round that shoots higher at 100 yards. I then set my zero mark for the other ammo where it lines up at 0. That way I can dial zero for any of my ammo. I use a zero off set on my applied ballistics software to calculate drops at those extended distances. The only thing you need to be conscious of when switching ammo is the windage. I keep it capped so I set it and forget it if I’m using the ammo that isn’t lined up on my windages zero. Out of preference I use my hunting ammo for marked zero for both elevation/wind so if I’m out in the woods i’ll Always be able to know where I am exactly in relationship to my wind.

    Hopefully that all makes sense.

Thanks. That feature was basically what I was going to do but without the first offset at zero.

With 140grAmerican Gunner and 143gr ELDx at 100, I am not sure I can shoot well enough to figure out the offset between the two but I will try.
