Rifle Scopes Looking for Input on 2nd FP Eastern Whitetail Scope

Yeah, its another of those "this product or that product" threads....sigh. :ROFLMAO:

I'm not a big time deer hunter. I'm 71, live in MD, hunted waterfowl for a very long time (but now...screw those ice covered duck boats! haha), and once a year I get to hunt whitetails on my buddy's land in Georgia with box blinds, 200 yard shooting lanes, and feeders. Yep, country club hunting for the aged! LOL

Was down there recently for my once a year hunt and my Vortex Viper PST II (3-15) shit the bed. Its on a Rem 700 5R in .308. Its with Vortex now and I expect them to fix it or replace it but I got down there and the damn rifle was shooting 2' low and the elevation turret was binding!! Loss of zero would be an understatement. I do not want to trust this Viper on a hunt again, and frankly I don't think a 1st FP with a tree reticle was the best choice.

So, I'm thinking of replacing the Vortex. I'm a mil vet so I get pretty good discounts from Leupold and Europtics (for the Swarovski).

I'm looking at these two scopes and would be interested in anybody's first hand experience with them. Particularly, glass quality (brightness) and reliability in a hunting situation:

1. Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44

2. Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44
a. Alternative is VX-6HD in 3-18 either 44 or 50 (50 seems a bit big for a hunting rifle, no?)
Thank you

Barricade matches and “Possible” scores

Trying to determine the current thoughts on the level of difficulty in barricade matches.
How important is a “possible” score (no dropped points) where the winner is decided by time?
Let’s say you finished 3rd because you missed 2 targets, 2nd place missed 1, and the winner cleaned it, is this placement less in your mind than the fella who was the third of several to clean the course, but two others beat him on time?
Would a course be less favorable in your mind if it was next to impossible to clean or impact over say 90% without timing out?

Rifle Scopes Vixen 2-8x32

I was looking for an entry level priced compact scope for the FA-91.

I wanted:
1) Enough eye clearance to allow for shooting in various positions (my old carcass doesn't flex like it used to...).
2) Sit forward enough to not get eyebrow doughnuts, and rearward enough to allow for charge handle clearance.

The Vixen 2-8x32 has 4 inch eye clearance and is 9.8 inches in length, and is $200.00 on eBay. It sits on the rail nicely between iron sight and charge handle.

It has nice fumble-finger-friendly full size adjustment knobs, and looks like it really is 1/4 MOA per click. First sight in shot was 1.5" left at 25 yds, and 24 clicks brought the second shot right on the bullseye.

Obviously I haven't done the thorough testing I see for other scopes on this sight, but thought I'd put it on the radar as it might be a nice mid/low priced scope, especially for a compact.

I welcome any other feedback y'all may have.

Rifle Scopes Looking for an ELR/LR/range optic

I recently sold my AXSA with a ZCO 5-27. I wanted to get an AXMC which I did. The purpose of the gun is for shooting steel out to one mile at the range. Needless to say it was a good chunk of change so I have been a little shy to go all out on the optic. Wrong approach, I know. However looking around the new Vortex Gen 3 keeps coming up with very good reviews. I have a line on a like new one locally for $2150 with newer turrets according to the owner. There are also a few 7-35 ATACRs floating around for $2700 and even a SB 6-36 for $3350 or ZCO’s for $3100.
My question is if using in the manner I described would you think spending another 600 to 1200 I would be getting that much extra in going with one of the options over the Vortex? I’m may just be acting like a little snob about putting a Vortex on the AXMC which is dumb AF. Hell do I even need a 35 or 36 powered optic?
