Rimfire Shooting, Same Signal, Different Noise

rimfire1.jpg
Rimfire 22 Shooting

Applying RifleKraft to Rimfire

rimfire3.jpeg

There’s a growing interest in rimfire—especially among new shooters, parents with kids, or anyone looking for a more accessible path into precision rifle shooting. The gear is lighter, the ammo is cheaper, and you don’t need 1,000 yards to train well. But while the platform may feel different, the principles don’t change. RifleKraft applies to rimfire just as directly as it does to centerfire—you just have to adjust how you interpret the results.

This isn’t about a different system. It’s about a different signal-to-noise ratio. The fundamentals still show up. The outputs still reflect the inputs. But some signals get louder, others quieter—and the shooter has to learn to read them for...

Need some advice, occasional failure to extract JP AR10

Need some diagnostic help on this situation.

Took this rig, in 6.5 CM, to the range the other day after it had been sitting in the safe for about a year. Only 350 rounds through it. All JP factory parts including the Silent Captured Spring standard for this rifle. Bobro one piece mount with a ZCO scope. Magpul magazines.

Prior to heading out I ran a couple of patches through the bore, took the bolt apart, wiped down the bolt, removed and wiped down the extractor lever and bolt face, and wiped down the BCG, all with M-Pro 7, re-assembled the bolt and lubed it and the BCG, light touch, with Mil-tec. I had cleaned all of this prior to putting it in the safe a year ago, so this was just in the spirit of good routine.

Had intended to just remind myself how the rig shoots, practice staying on it through recoil impulse, confirm zero, call it a day. Brought some Hornady 140gr ELD-M rounds, which routinely have shot .75 MOA or slightly better at 100 yards when I am competent behind the rig. Over the history of shooting this rifle no failures of any kind. Gas port was set for the Hornady a year ago, no changes prior to this outing.

So that's the set up.

Start shooting and get three good shots then one failure to extract. The spent cartridge is in the chamber. Not hard stuck, just wasn't extracted. Tap it out from the muzzle end with a cleaning rod and it drops right out, no hammering necessary. The shot was a center punch of a one inch paster at 100 yards, and it didn't feel like a hot load either how it sounded or how it recoiled.

Examine the bolt face, no debris in the extractor claw, bolt face is clean, no brass fragments, everything looks normal. Remove the bolt from the BCG, nothing in the BCG cavity that would impede the bolt cycling. Ran a pipe cleaner through the gas key on the BCG, clean. Swab out the chamber to be sure there isn't any debris there, all bueno.

Do it again and same result, this time four good rounds and one failure to extract.

Turn the gas port down to nearly closed and start the process of opening it a quarter turn at a time. No ejection at first, naturally, then as the port opens I finally get an ejection. Open it an additional 1/8th turn and shoot five rounds to confirm. All good. Changed to another Magpul mag just to be sure, once again five rounds all good.

Back on the rifle with a full mag (ten rounds), once again three good rounds and one failure to extract. Open the gas port another quarter turn. Once again three good rounds and one failure to extract. Open the gas port some more and get four good rounds then a failure. Kept doing that process until the brass was coming out of the ejection port dented, and still the occasional failure to extract.

I assume there is something obvious in my process that would account for the occasional failures to extract. Hope someone can contribute a suggestion or even a question that might help me through this. If there is something in my explanation of the set up that needs clarification, please let me know that.

Thanks for any suggestions.

New Prefit Installed

For years my gunsmith has prepped barrels for me and I have installed them without any problems.

Needing a new barrel in a window that my gunsmith’s time line couldn’t meet, I purchased a nice prefit barrel. I installed it, the go gauge was perfect and the no-go closed a slight amount, may 1/4 the way and locked up solid, not much different than my other experiences. BTW this is a new action, not previously used.

Breaking in the barrel was normal as far as I could tell, chambering was fine, unlocking the action and ejecting the case was normal. Cleaning disclosed quite a bit of copper.

Measuring the fired cases, my comparator gave me a measurement of 1.245” consistently over the ten cartridges. My other action and barrel, gave me 1.243”.

Lots of variables here, barrels made by different companies, different reamers, and different gunsmiths. Are the slight variation in cases indicative of any issues or are they within the normal limits? Thanks for any insight.

Construction for New Titans Stadium Halted After ‘Racist and Hateful’ Symbol Found! A NOOSE!

Construction on the new Tennessee Titans stadium has come to a screeching halt after a noose was found on the site, according to reports.
A statement from the Tennessee Builders Association (TBA) said it suspended work after discovering the “racist and hateful” symbol.
“We are requiring additional antibias training for every person on site, and work will resume only after a site-wide stand-down focused on inclusion and respect,” the TBA said in a statement.
A spokesman for the Metro Nashville Police said they’re aware of the incident and are investigating.
The TBA is offering a reward for information leading to the identification of those involved.
“We are outraged and deeply saddened by this act,” the alliance’s statement added. “We are working in close partnership with our client, trade partners, and unions to ensure every worker understands that racism and hate have no place here. Everyone deserves to feel safe, welcomed, and treated with respect and dignity.”
Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell (D), a Democrat, lamented the “hate-based” discovery.
“Obviously, this is an environment where we want to try as hard as we can to prevent scenarios that might be fear- or hate-based,” the mayor said in a statement. “We’ve taken some steps, both with local policies, state policy, and partnership with them to try, again, to keep temperatures low and prevent hate incidents like this. It is very concerning. There is an open investigation. I know the Titans are cooperating with Metro Nashville Police, and we’ll see what that investigation turns up.”
The Titans’ new stadium is a three-year project scheduled for completion in February 2027. The Titans’ current stadium is an open-air stadium. However, the new facility will be enclosed.
While the TBA may be suspending work, the Titans will resume their offseason program next Tuesday when they report to a Nashville practice facility.

HAVE TO WONDER IF THE CONSTRUCTION WORKERS HAVE A NOOSE CLAUSE IN THEIR CONTRACT??
