Reloading Equipment HUGE Lapua/Hornady/Forster .308 reloading bundle (Indiana) - $ Drop 05/31!

I’ve been sitting on this stuff for a long while, but as I’m getting out of .308 it’s time to move the reloading goods along! Please note that this listing may change as I find and add more stuff!

This lot is basically overruns, factory seconds, and rejects straight from the Lapua/Berger factory back in Mesa, AZ. At the time, I knew a guy who worked there that was able to get these before they got scrapped and he sold them to those who wanted them. The brass needs to be sorted and processed to weed out the bad pieces, but from what I can see I’d wager 60-70% of the brass should be good.

The loaded ammo may have been rejected for a variety of reasons, from not being sized, seating depth being off, etc. My intention was to pull the bullets, weigh and record each charge weight and store the powder in a new container, cull the bad brass and re-size/trim the good, and re-assemble using a charge weight of the powder averaged from all the broken down loads. I figured it would make for good practice ammo.

For the rest of the brass, I’d planned on the same sorting process to cull what’s bad and resize/trim the rest and use them.

I basically took retail and multiplied it by ~40% to get my price on the components (60% off retail). Based on what I’ve seen when counting and sorting these, there’s probably a 30-40% reject rate on the brass, so I figure you’re still coming out ahead by a decent margin. If you use a kinetic puller, you’d get all the 167gr Scenars out in near perfect condition.

I can’t ship ammo, it’s a HUGE pain in the ass now that UPS has closed all Customer Centers within a ~2hr radius of me. If someone wants the rest, I’d consider splitting it off in large chunks (primed brass doesn’t need hazmat), but I’d prefer to sell to someone local-ish.

I live in Lafayette, IN, and I’ll drive up to around an hour for the right deal. That means anywhere from Merrillville to NW Indy (headed to Avon the morning of May 27th), and Wabash to I suppose I could go a little ways into IL for a western trip. I’m also trying to head to the Sterling, IL area via Chicago this Friday morning but it would need to be a FAST meeting as I’m on a tight schedule. I’m *NOT* meeting up for 100 pieces of brass, so don’t ask.

For the entire bundle, I’d like to see $1100 $1000 $950 $775 $525 OBO. That’s WAY below retail even after you cull the bad stuff out. I’m open to reasonable offers for the entire bundle however, as I need this stuff gone yesterday, it’s taking up way too much room!

Best Sub $750 optic for target and varmint - 2025

Another one of these threads sorry in advance. I am looking for a scope that is around the 5-25 power. Sub $750. I want at least 5 on the low end 25 on the max. FFP IR MIL, 34mm tube. This gun will sit on a varmint and target trainer rifle. I will also use it for 600 yard PRS matches. The gun is chambered in 223 with a throat and magazine that can accommodate heavy for caliber high bc bullets that the 22 arc would launch. My goal is to shoot varmint out to 600 yards. So my need on the clarity side is at 25 power I want to be able to see coyotes/dogs etc. at 600 yards.

I have looked at the following and am having trouble because I cannot look through them all side by side. Main contenders are strike eagle 5-25x56, Arken EP5 5-25 and the Gen 2 Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30. I've never owned athlon or looked through one. The reticle seems good but I've read they have some tunneling. I really like on the strike eagles how the eyebox has almost no tunneling the body just disappears. The arken reticle and ir is actually preferred, I have found in low light fully illuminated reticles really block your vision. The strike eagles ilum is too much and not useful for low light. So in summary arken has preferred reticle as it's kind of hybrid target and hunting, strike eagle for the thin eyebox effect and athlon ares I have no experience and I hear lots of hyperbole on glass quality which I no longer believe what I read on the Internet lol. My thought is the glass on all three should be relatively close but you have people saying arken is just as good as night force atacr, same thing with ares oddly enough there are hyperbolic reviews of the strike eagle as well as a lot of people call them pieces of shit lol. Your insight and expertise is greatly appreciated...

Gunsmithing Muzzle brake ruins muzzle crown

I'll try to make this short. I added a clamp-on muzzle brake to my RRA heavy bbl varmint gun. Before muzzle brake, rifle shot consistent 1/2 MOA groups. I noticed a gradual reduction in accuracy over the next 500 rounds to where I thought my bbl was wearing out. Bbl cleanliness good through life of bbl. Total 1500 rounds through 223 Wylde bbl. Bore scope indicated nothing wrong with lands and grooves to indicate wear using the Teslong 45 degree mirror (90 degree view angle). However, when the Teslong passed through the crown, I noticed a fuzziness at the crown. I changed to the 25 degree mirror on the Teslong, As I approached the crown, I could see very deep channels leading to the crown. Those channels were not visible with the 90 view. My bbl had a recessed crown. The brake fit tightly and squarely to the muzzle. I have come to the conclusion that the addition of the brake was causing gas-cutting on the crown. I pulled the brake off and re-crowned the muzzle with a target crown. The gun is now back to shooting 1/2 MOA. I highly recommend anyone using a clamp-on muzzle brake examine your crown with a borescope using an angle other than 90 degree view. Sorry, no pics.

And to think just some months ago these guys only existed in right wing conspiracy theories.

We were told there was no evidence they existed , where committing acts of terror and organized crime . One piece of evidence that they didn’t exist and were not terrorizing multiple apartment complexes was that local law enforcement hadn’t made any arrests . And that part of their argument was true .
