CMMG Radial Delayed 9 mm - First trips

I have always wanted a 9 mm upper or 9 mm subgun for range plinking. I was never the biggest fan of straight blowback uppers for multiple reasons, most namely they are loud, and they tend to have a higher recoil impulse than locked breech systems. I also didn't want to deal with a mag well adapter or dedicated lower.

Anyways Midway had a sale on CMMG radial delayed uppers several months ago, and I picked up a 5" complete Banshee upper. I finally got around to shooting it.

In short, it runs great. Digested 115 and 147 hr loads without issue. The CMMG magazine that goes in a standard AR magwell worked without a hitch, and the BHO worked too. It suppressed reasonably well with a Primal 46.

I used it on a standard AR lower with a Geiselle SD3G trigger and standard carbine buffer. There were no trigger issues either.

I didn't shoot it enough to conclusively establish it's reliability but so far it has been off to a solid start.

What do you want in a WMRF?

I’m working with a guy who is trying to potentially bring a WMRF to market. Price point goal would be around $1000 or so, so obviously the idea is to have what’s needed without extra fluff to add cost. I was thinking a 2K laser (no one is really shooting past that anyway, and if you are, step up to the Vortex), wired remote with a 90* plug, and the possibility of a small second screen that could be mounted on the rifle itself similar to a dope card, so you could stay on glass while ranging. What are you guys looking for in a more budget package?

Coleman’s Creek July Geissele match AAR

Shot this match on Fri, and RO’d on Sat. Man was it hot. July in NC can be brutal to shoot in, and Mother Nature set a high bar. Overall I thought the match was a good one. It was very challenging, but doable, much like the May match, but I felt this match was a couple notches harder. Many of the targets were in vegetation, and they were much harder to pick up, especially under the stress and pressure of being on the clock. A few of the targets were just inside of the shade of a tree line, and they would simply disappear. It was so important to memorize the exact placement during your walk through. As a shooter, it was very challenging, but fun. As an RO, I had a good time with everyone. Shooters were serious enough to do the best that they could, but also, they were relaxed enough to joke around and have some fun. I was at stage 4, with the blue barrels and a split rail fence. An invisible wind made the 420 yard target a little tougher than it appeared. I wish I had a dollar for every bullet that slid by the right edge of the target. I’d be rich. Every time I shoot in central NC, I am blown away how good the boys from Bragg are. Impressive to say the least. Just know that you are an inspiration to us old guys! Next one is in September. Y’all come on!

SOLD Vltor MUR-1A Upper Receiver (includes fwd assit and dust cover)

* Note to mods, I purchased contributor status a few days ago but my badgers don’t show it yet.

This is a like new lightly used upper receiver with only approximately 150 rounds on it. Note this is not a thermofit upper. The face has not been lapped or anything and no loctite 620 or other bedding compounds have been used with it.

Looking for $150 including shipping

Product description from Vltor:

The Vltor MUR-1A (Modular Upper Receiver) is a premium, Mil-Spec flat-top upper receiver designed for AR15/M16/M4 rifles and carbines, crafted from 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum forgings for superior strength and durability. Its key features include a thicker receiver wall for enhanced rigidity, which improves accuracy and reliability while extending the lifespan of interfacing components like the bolt carrier group and barrel assembly. The MUR-1A comes fully assembled with a pinned shell deflector and forward assist, M4 feed ramps for reliable feeding, and a hard-anodized black finish (MIL-A-8625 Type III Class 2) with a dry lube coating for smooth operation and corrosion resistance. Each unit is stress-relieved, heat-treated, double-aged, and cryogenically treated to ensure dimensional stability and precision, with hand-finishing and 100% quality control checks to maintain exact tolerances. Weighing approximately 9.8 oz, it’s compatible with Mil-Spec lowers and barrels.
