SOLD Remington M40 tribute build F/S

Build thread with tons of pics & details here...

Original mid to late '60s vintage Remington 40X action, factory clip slotted, parkerized and U S. marked. Original 40X trigger & 7.62 NATO marked recoil lug

Douglas 24" stainless M40 contour barrel, 10 twist & 6 groove, less than 200 rounds of factory FGMM 175 & T308T 168 through it. Chambered & marked 7.62 NATO. Barrel, bottom metal & buttplate finished in Brownells Aluma Hyde II Dark Parkerized finish (one light spot in finish on front of trigger guard but didn't bother me enough to respray it)

Beever156 stock sanded down to closer to original specs, correct original Remington aluminum buttplate, went with Grov-tec swivels to be able to run a bipod if desired. Stock is not bedded, fit is super tight and shoots great. Up to new owner if they want to bed it or not. Has later BDL bottom metal with follower modified to USMC spec to fit 5 rounds in the internal magazine.

Redfield 3-9X40 Accurange with correct 600yd "Tombstone" reticle, commercial model in gloss black, very good condition mounted in correct "1-64" marked Redfield rings and later SA700 Redfield Jr base.

Will ship in an original green Protecto Kaddy case with an original "Jan '65" marked OD green web sling.

I really hate to sell but due to working night shifts every weekend I probably won't get a chance to use it for CMP Vintage Sniper competition like I originally planned. On that subject I have the email from the CMP match director stating the 40X marked original actions and this rifle build is legal for the Vietnam Era Sniper matches I can forward to purchaser if desired. (Rules state Remington 700 marked actions only but I wanted clarification on that to be sure)

$SPF shipped & insured in the lower 48 states, will not split the build up & no trades please. Venmo, Cash App, PayPal accepted

Feedback SCAMMERS

I was almost scammed by a guy with the same user name and the one i was dealing with, he sent me a message and everything looked the same. Luckily i already bought it from the real one. I will stress, phone calls are your friend, scammers in most cases wont take a phone call and are not of american nationality. take the time and request or allow a phone call

BEWARE GOOGLE DNS!

Long story short, after a long career of almost 23 years, my own Windows Server 2003 machine died (hardware death) on Easter Sunday of all days! And so did my DHCP, DNS and Active Directory servers as a result. I was in the process of building a brand new "Ubuntu Server" (Linux based) so I finished that quickly and installed both a DHCP and DNS server. It seems to work well.

The problem is, my Windows client machines won't accept DNS services from the Ubuntu server. It keeps trying to "Autoconfigure" an IP stack that gets me nowhere. All kinds of problems. So, what I do now is use the DHCP part of it and then enter DNS settings manually. At first, I tried dns.google.com (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4). It's quicker than most others. But BEWARE!

Google DNS appears to be tracking your URLs/Links more closely than normal. I went to YouTube, clicked on a video, and then it forced me to "Log in" to a Google account to watch the video. Not because it had adult, mature or violent content, etc. or whatever, but just simply "to prove I'm not a BOT." That's right. Just to prove I'm "not a BOT." And it required that for every video on which I clicked. Normally, I don't log in to Google to use YouTube (so it can't track me or tie my views to my account). When I changed to a different DNS provider, and went back to the same YouTube page (without even closing it), the videos played fine when I clicked on them.

I'm not saying that Google (via YouTube) isn't tracking me in other way (via the WAN IP, etc.), but at least they can't link what I watch to a Google Acct.

CAVEAT YouTube watchers!

An Interesting read… I remember hearing about the Boom… not the aftermath!

Remember Richard Jewel who the FBI railroaded when he was the innocent security guard hero of the Atlanta Olympic bombing?

Well, the ATF did it again in the 2000’s… to an EMT/firefighter….

Wonder how many of them are senior agents now? When they should have been fired…

Sierra Precision Grip Mod

The Sierra Precision Grip is probably my favorite grip for a precision AR but one of the drawbacks is that the inside of the grip is hollow and it's weirdly shaped so there were really no options for storage. I decided to do something about that so I brainstormed some ideas and what I came up with was to cannibalize a grip that did have storage and figure out a way to graft that on to the SPR grip.

I had a Magpul K2 XL that I ended up not really liking much so it became the sacrifice for this project so I started hacking and basically left myself with this relatively small portion, basically the latch recess and "strut guide".

MAG1165_Feature_Magpul_MOE_K2-XL_Grip_03.jpg

The remainder piece was still too wide to fit so I had to whittle it down and hog out some of the interior of the SPR grip using everyone's favorite tool, a Dremel.

Once I got it to the point the door was flush with the bottom I held it in place with a couple dots of super glue so I could prep it for epoxy.

SPR Grip Bottom.jpg

I'll need to clean up the excess tomorrow so it's flush with the bottom and maybe splash it with some paint for touch up.

The Hell with basketball & that "March Madness" nonsense- it's April & that means HOCKEY!

March madness is behind us (I'm sure someone won some kind of championship recently but I haven't watched basketball since Jordan, Rodman, and Pippen were playing for the Bulls in the early 90's).

I want to talk Hockey here- specifically AHL Hockey. NHL is fair game but in hockey terms- the regular season is over and regardless what league you follow the team's are chasing after their respective cups for the season.

Here's where we're at for the AHL bracket...

1745466002214.png

While I'm more equipped to talk AHL here- since we're talking Hockey I'll throw in the NHL bracket (I'm doubtful "my" team has the juice to bring home the cup here) but regardless...

1745466129500.png

This has been a particularly notable year for me personally and my enjoyment of hockey. As mentioned- I've primarily been focused on AHL games as this was the first year I committed to purchasing passes for the local team. The game of hockey has changed (or at least it seems like it has to me over the years) but I was able to witness some 'interesting' moments during the 18+ games I went to. One of which was seeing the opposing team's goalie clock a player from the home team. "Loyalties" aside- I don't know if I ever saw a goalie initiate a fight before this year. I also saw a fight break out... twice that seemed to include the entirety of both teams. It took something like 20-30 minutes for the refs to work out the penalties afterwards and added something close to an extra hour to the game while they sorted out the penalties for both teams.

I started a thread here after the experience of one particular game, titled something like "you matter". I stand behind the sentiment of why I started that post but the gist was our seats this year were next to two brothers... one of which was part of the Army National Guard and the other had some special needs. As the season progressed, I came to talk to these two and found out that there was something about the game that 'settled/calmed' the one brother and the other (for years at that point) was his 'hockey buddy' to take him to these games. A really impressive young man in my opinion and in his "just doing what needed to be done for his family".

Those are just the top highlights in my head tonight- not to get unnecessarily reminiscent either, just want to talk hockey here.

So what say you Hide, any hockey fans out there watching either the AHL or NHL teams chasing after this season's cups?
