CBTO and Lands and different Bullets

I may be overthinking this.

So if I use one bullet let’s say the 140 ElDM to find the lands and get a CBTO measurement there.

Now if I want to seat 0.020 off that point I just adjust down my seating die etc. pretty simple.

Now if I have second bullet let’s say the 153 ATIP can I use the above CBTO of lands and adjust accordingly.

My understanding is that the OGIVE is the point the bullet engages the rifling. So that theoretically should be same across all brands of bullets? Obviously at a different point on each type of bullet but CBTO to lands should be same across all bullets?

Thanks
Mike

Cataract Surgery

I had my right eye cataract surgery done on Tuesday. They took a series of measurements before the surgery and also found my astigmatism to be bad and needed immediate attention. In addition to the cataract surgery, I ended up with a Toric Lens. I had my post-ops done yesterday, and all went well. Today is the first day my eyes do not feel puffy. The vision clarity improvement is significant, and supposively improve further over the next few days as the eye heals. I highly recommend it for those having the same issue. Sadly, it cost $900, and my insurance does not cover it. Luckily, I set aside money in my medical Federal Spending Account for such expenditures.

SOLD March 2.5x25-42 SFP in NF Ultralite Rings

I’m selling my March 2.5-25x42 SFP scope with the MTR-4 MOA reticle. It comes with the original box, scope covers, and the sun shade. It’s mounted in Nightforce Ultralite low (0.885) rings.

The scope was bought new in 2024 and sat on a hunting rifle of mine. I hunted with it from a Texas hunting blind a couple of times for one season. I sold that hunting rifle (down sizing), so I’m selling this. Absolutely nothing is wrong with it and it works as it should.

Asking $xxx shipped/insured. I’m not interested in trades, and I’m not interested in separating the mount and scope.

If you have any questions or want to see more pics, please let me know. I live in the San Antonio/Austin area if you’re close.

Thanks for looking!

UK Synagogue attacked on Yom Kippur, just north of Manchester.

Newsmax is reporting that a UK based synagogue just north of Manchester was attacked. A lot of stabbings and I understand that they rammed a car through the crowd. One gun shot reported. It would appear though that the assailant was also "neutralized" via firearm. Not sure if the police did that or not.

And, this, during Yom Kippur.

Accessories PBB Carbon Defiance 6.5 GAP 4s barrel / Defiance Mag bolt and components

Thinking of selling my Preferred Carbon barrel chambered in 6.5 GAP 4s. This is a Defiance pre-fit. It is 19”, 8 twist and threaded 5/8-24. It has 218 rounds through it and has been very accurate and easy to clean.

The Defiance bolt is a short action nitrided and has about 400 rounds on it. Face is perfect and it’s super slick in an action.

Hawkins mag has been massaged to flawlessly feed the GAP/SAUM cartridge. I didn’t feed worth a crap when I got it and I have carefully modified the follower and the feed lips to feed and not scratch brass.

I also have 290+ pieces of once fired and sized Hornady Gen 3 GAP 4s brass. It has been turned and annealed and is ready to load.
-The Cerakote on the parts is as close as you can get to Nightforce Dark Earth. (I can Cerakote to another color)
-I will not sell any other components separately until the barrel sells.
-Scope pictured is for color reference.
-Groups pictures are at 400 yards.

Barrel only $700
Barrel with everything else $1400

Optics Wts Minox ZP5 5-25x56

I have a white box minox zp5 5-25x56 MR4 reticle. I bought it new around 2021-2022 and used it on an heavy LR hunting rifle for a couple season and it has sat in the safe ever since.

It has some turret rash from use, but glass is flawless as its always had scope caps on it.

It has the factory box, Tenebraex caps and the pictured Nightforce rings rings.

$2000 shipped. Only trade would be a lighter high X 30mm scope like March or NX8 in FFP and Mils.

A M)L/Elevation question

I bought a Leupold HD MkII 5 7x35. Mounted it on a Remy action, 20 moa rail Sighted it in, did nicely, but when I checked I only have about 15.5 mils elevation. I called Leupy and the guy said thats just the way it is. I ordered a 40 moa rail, but it shows 5.83 additional mils. Other than getting a higher moa rail (not easy to find) what can I do to avoid needing to do a hold to reach past a mile?

Precision Rifle Gear Custom Trimble Nomad foam & case

So I reached out to @geeoff for one of his Kestrel and Garmin chrono foam inserts.

He said he can do custom inserts so I asked him”can you do one for a Trimble Nomad?”

Sent him some pics and dimensions and a few days later I had a box on my doorstep.

It fit perfect!

If you need a custom insert, do not hesitate to contact him.

PRS Talk Hybrid scoring thoughts ?

So they dropped this video today

Going over changes to the scoring system for the upcoming season. And i have mixed feelings on it . I also wanna say i know the guys who put in the work to come up with this worked hard so it feels weird sharing criticism . But heres my takes

And let me preface with im not special , 18 months into this and mid pack as it gets so maybe my opinion isn't going to be considered as valuable as the top 10 percent or whatever .

There are two main parts to this . The first is hybrid scoring . This is a thought for how to deal with the meatball match issue where if you live in the right area or are willing to travel alot you can just hit the right matches where down in the 40th places people are still at the 90%’s in match percentages . Which is a legitimate issue . Its not fair that some people get a gravy train to the finale while other people get drug by some heavy hitters at some hard matches . I think anyone who follows scoring can agree this is bad . But heres my issue . As a midpack shooter the finale is a maybe it happens sorta thing . And my current state of trying to improve is based around trying to climb classifications . Like after being an absolute wreck my first year all i wanted to do is get past my am tag . Then i see im teetering around 80%s and im sure i can get there so hitting that semi tag seems achievable. But its going to be really demoralizing if the next season you’re forced to try and climb through that stuff against a field of people who did it when the system was easier . So without doing something wild like recalibrating classifications then it changing the scoring system is kinda a turn off to all the new shooters who realize they cant catch up to someone even if they shoot as good as them . To be clear i dont mind the idea of the score numbers generally being lower i think that part of it and the fact that you aren't going to make it to the finale off a bunch of 40th place 90 percent finishes is fantastic . It does solve a problem . But creates another problem is now i cant compete against the rest of the field at the metric thats meaningful to me thats really discouraging.

The second part of this is the idea of making your score require 4 matches a year . I cannot understate how much i hate this . I have been trying to drag friends into competing and getting a membership to track their stats since i started and to alot of people 3 a year sounds like a lot . I shot 3 two days my first year to get a class and then shot 6 two days this year . And i have things coming up so im sure i wont be able to shoot as many next year . Theres 3 in our state and id have to drive more than 5 hours or fly to hit another …. And to be honest i probably wont . If it moves to a 4 match needed to get a score system im probably just gonna shoot like 2 pro matches for fun and shoot a few regionals . Possibly pass on keeping an active membership . and probably build a 22 since i can shoot that all over around here . Switch from a competitive mindset to a more casual one .

Anyways i just wanted to make a thread to discuss this and maybe get some opinions on record . I really appreciate what the scoring committee is trying to do but i feel like it really might be overlooking what it looks like in practice for the very large midpack group of shooters .

Firearms 6.5 PRC hunting build

For sale is a 6.5 PRC built by Eazor Precision in Falls Creek PA. The barrel was broke in using factory hornady ELDM and it was never shot after that or hunted with, I’ve had a lot of rifles built by him and it shoots great just like the rest of them. $5000 shipped to your FFL, I live in Clearfield PA an in person deal is always preferred. The only trade I’d be interested in is a nocpix ace S60R.

Congrats Pvt Laprade!

Just goes to prove it’s not the biggest dudes… it’s the mentally toughest and the smartest and the most motivated individuals who make the grade. The ones who won’t quit.

Standards? This proves once again that anyone can meet the toughest standards if they have enough heart. And no quit in them!

MTE Machining = Precision Gas Gun excellence 6gt build

I was searching for a barrel for a 6gt gas gun and found MTE Machining out of Texas. I shot the company an email and got a prompt email back asking if I could talk. I talked directly to the owner barrel turner and gunsmith about what I was looking for and what I wanted. Jeff was quick to listen to what I wanted and offered me a solution as well as timeline that worked for me. He offered to assemble the upper and test fire it for a super nominal fee to make sure it met his expectations before shipping it out. Through out the whole process Jeff was always reaching out to let me know where I was in the queue/build sending me pictures and updates. When it was assembled and shot he sent me groups. When he sent the upper out he sent out his recipe for the loads that worked out of the rifle. Jeff has always been great to work with before and after the sale offering help etc. He also offers a hand guard that has built in arca rail the full length on it thats awesome. I have about 50 rounds through the build and it's shooting a 1/2moa. If you're looking for a barrel, full build, or an upper reach out to MTE Machining.

Another newscum sucks thread...

This is newscum trying to get around the thing the dems put in place so that no one governor could re-align the districts in Kalipornia to favor either party....

EVERY "registered voters" in CA got one of these books for one item in the election. AND they will mail out ballots to all of those same "registered voters"...

This is going to cost the state (who is broke) $300,000,000.

HARD NO on this (Prop 50) for me. Don't be fooled by the propaganda...

PHUCK this guy...
