PVS-4 focus grabby- frustrated

Upon reassembling my PVS-4, the objective focus ring becomes grabby (tight and not smooth) once the internal o-ring becomes compressed.
I noticed a white lubricant when I first received the scope, which I assume was lithium grease, so that is what I reapplied after having cleaned the threads as best I could.
Looking at the manual, silicon grease is mentioned for lubricating the o-rings, but no other lubrication is mentioned for the focus ring threads. Are these supposed to run dry? I'm wondering if the grease is actually causing the problem if those threads are not designed to be lubricated. Thanks for any first-hand advice.

Little Crow Gunworks: Avg POI Is More Important Than Group Size. Thoughts?

This might be a bit controversial but he makes some good points. You need to look at both precision (mean radius/ES) and accuracy (API). To give some context his load development process he does use group size but its not the main focus.

He starts with testing 2-3 different powders with his desired bullet for the use case. For 308 he will use gordons reloading tool to find the charge weights for 50K to 62K and go in .2gr increments and load one shot at each increment. He will do this process for each powder then shoot 10-15 round groups (a single POA for each powder). The point of this is to see how temp/pressure sensitive each powder is.

Here he tested 3 powders:
IMG_3383.png

He Id’d powder C as the best (look for group size < 2”) then repeated the same charges for powder C as step 1 but 3 shot groups for each increment instead 1.

The red numbers represent different temps. Look for 4-5 charge weights in a row that have similar API and low vertical stringing and the target in the middle will be your charge (see stars)

Here’s a nice AI summary of differences between mean radius and API:

6mm Longer Range Questions

I have a 6ARC (gas) that I have developed a decent load for using 108gr Hornady bullets. I am intentionally not putting a lot of details because I want the conversation to focus on bullet selection.

Assuming I can make it shoot decent groups, what would the practical differences be if I used a 105 or 103 grain bullet instead? I mean specifically at ranges 1k ish or beyond. At those ranges the sole purpose is target shooting.

If there are other noteable benefits (say like terminal performance at 300 yards and in) I would be interested to hear.

While I am speaking of Hornady bullets only, if there are other options please let me know and include those in the discussion. For example I am interested in trying the Berger 109 but they are generally hard to get and sell at a premium.

I am interested in testing and toying with various bullets in the 100+ grain weight category but I want to narrow down the list to a few options before I start to buy stuff. Ideally I will narrow it down to maybe 4 or 5 options (max) before I really start to work on loads.

SOLD Vortex Razors Gen II 4.5-27 & Gen III 6-36 New in Box

Full disclosure, these optics belong to a local friend of mine who is not an active member, but they are in my possession and I will guarantee them arriving as described. They are brand new in the box as delivered from Vortex with factory seals still in place. If you would like to purchase one of the optics I'm happy to ship without breaking the factory seal, or once we've agreed upon a price I'm also happy to cut the seal and send complete pictures of contents as long as we've agreed upon a purchase contingent on the photos. I just hate to cut the seal as to some that's a plus being brand new and unopened.

6mm arc alpha and peterson brass experience?

After seeing recent vids on 6 ARC from Greg and the guys at Full Circle Reloading, i'm highly considering a 6ARC gasser. I don't reload much but i do utilize guys like V3 munitions and others that can load ammo for me(i sold off my reloading gear a few years ago due to financial circumstances) and i'm looking at alpha and peterson brass for these.

What is everyone's experience with these brands in 6 arc and what have you noticed?

Also anyone have any good loads for 108 elite hunters for 6arc?

Picking a first PRS two day match

If you were shooting your first two day match which would you choose… war rifles shootout or sheepdog showdown? Both are about the same distance from me to travel to and both have solid reputation for being a good time, the showdown “qualifier” match and the shootout standard two day.

I haven’t actually shot a full match season in a while, so I’m not expecting to set the world on fire and running a 223 for tac division definitely put me at a disadvantage but it’s all about having fun right. I have other caliber options but I don’t really want to switch up stuff and end up screwing my self up one way or another.
