Savage: the Only Jerks in the Gun Parts Business?

I thought I would thread the muzzle of my Savage A22 and just order a new barrel if I ruined it. Today I called Savage, and I learned:

1. They will not sell you a barrel or nut.
2. They will not send your FFL or smith a barrel or nut.
3. They will rebarrel your gun if you send it in and pay.
4. They will force you to use the exact type of barrel the gun came with, so forget threading.

Are there any other gun companies that are complete jerks about parts?

Guess I'm going to be a 10/22 guy soon.

Leupold MK IV LRT 8.5-25 x 50 turret issue.

Hey fellas and gals, this is my first real post although I did the new member intro thread. I've run into an issue with the scope in my thread title. It is a mid 90's abomination of mil reticle and MOA adjustments. What can I say, I didn't know much about LR shooting and was in the process of learning it from TFTT/DAG, as well as, nothing otherwise that myself or my "armorer" knew of, was really available back then.

It's a good scope and has gotten me to 900-1000 but after coming back from the range where I was shooting in and zeroing my AI chassis, I went to slip the elevation turret to the zero mark but it won't slip. It won't turn without clicking, whereas the windage turret slips smooth as silk like it is supposed to. The rifle did take a short slow, sliding drop onto the tile, maybe a foot or so. It landed on the side focus knob but could have hit the elevation turret as well. This occurred since the last time I shot the rifle. It seemed fine with no apparent issues, not even a mark on the scope. I know these things are known to be pretty tough but maybe it knocked the turret housing out of whack so that it is binding, I don't know. I was thinking about giving a couple taps with a dead blow hammer and try to get it slipping freely. Anyone had this issue or got any smithing scoop? Send it back to Leupy for repair? Not that it probably matters but the rifle is a early 90's Remington 700 PSS .308. Thanks for any input.

Chris Ray "Gifts Merrick Garland the kind of Tommy Gun (Update - REPLICA!!) once used by FBI Agents"

"Among those who praised Garland’s tenure Thursday was outgoing FBI Director Christopher Wray. “Your leadership and your values have never wavered,” Wray said, presenting Garland with the kind of Tommy gun once used by agents."

No indication if the gun came out of FBI inventory or is a replica. Any of the resident FBI agents here know (calling Mr Skunk!!!)? I am assuming it was a replica, I hope.

When Louie Freeh retired they cut up one of the FBI Thompsons and mounted it as a retirement gift.

Marine Scout Sniper Heritage Foundation - Fundraiser Event - Request for Info

Howdy Y'all!

I would like to organize a fundraising event for the MSSHF in Tx. I would like to inquire for advice/tips from those of you who participate with the MSSHF or have previously hosted fundraisers for them. Any of you in Tx who would like to help or create a small team to organize the event, feel free to comment or DM me.

I will of course reach out to the MSSHF first before officially organizing the event, but this is more to gather information and tips to better understand what has been required or done before for this type of event. As well as create a discussion thread for any other members or organizations to use for their own events.

My event plan thus far is below, feel free to pitch ideas or recommendations:
  • Event location: San Antonio / Dallas / College Station / Houston
  • Ticket/Registration Event
    • Combines all Gun Range, food costs, plus a flat donation to the MSSHF
      • BBQ Catering or Food Trucks
    • Raffle Tickets purchased separately (if donations are given / all proceeds go to MSSHF)
  • Gun Range: Pistol and Rifle Competition, and USMC Pistol and Rifle exhibition (service-issued and replicas welcomed)
    • A Place To Shoot
    • Texas Gun Ranch
    • CCC Shooting Complex
    • The Ranch Tx Club
    • American Shooting Center
  • Raffle Event (preferred donations of USMC related Memorabilia, Rifle and Pistol Parts, Accessories, Clothing, Insignia, Coins, Documents)
  • Commemorative Ceremony
    • Former and active-duty Marine Scout Snipers (including MOS 0322)
    • Honorary mention of and prayer over all former and active-duty Military and Law-Enforcement Members
    • Speech/Event Outro from a representative or board-member from the MSHHF
If this event agenda goes well, my goal would be to make it an annual event, potentially changing between ranges to diversify the event reach. For any other interested parties or members of the MSSHF that like this idea/agenda, feel free to use it, it's for y'alls benefit.

For any other organization or business that owns a shooting range, and wasn't mentioned above, feel free to reach out if interested in hosting, sponsoring, or donating gift certificates for classes or services. I am thinking that 300yds - 500yds would be ideal for the rifles, outdoor preferably, but I am option to any and all those who offer to host, thanks in advance!

Sidearms & Scatterguns P229 Legion Frame Question ...

Years ago, from SIG, I purchased a slide with a Romeo 1 red dot on it for my non-optics P229 Legion (9mm). I've since decided I wanted a Legion frame/lower to put that nearly new original slide to good use. Should be no problem, right? Wrong. I can't find a frame-only, Legion or otherwise, anywhere. An inquiry to SIG told me to go to GunBroker (none there), or to a local dealer (none of whom have nor can get one).

Looking for advice from the "collective" here on where I can locate a P229 Legion (or non-Legion) frame/lower to give my lonely slide a fulfilling purpose in life.

Anybody got any ideas? What am I missing here? I'd hate to think this Legion slide is now just a door-stop.

Why don't any 1.7 scope mounts have cant?

So, my scope mount is too low(1.5" and 62mm objective are too tight to the handguard to squeeze a scope cap on).

It seems very strange to me to the point of thinking I must be missing something that this is an uncommon set of parameters?

If you have a large Objective scope, you likely want a 1.7" centerline mount, and it's also safe to assume you're shooting long range and therefore will desire 20MOA cant).

However, this seems to be a really uncommon configuration for most mounts? Most 20moa cant mounts are 1.5" but when you look for 1.7" mounts that can accommodate such a scope none of them have 20MOA cant as an option.

Is there a reason for this? 62mm isn't that large of an objective is it?
