Authorities on Friday identified 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, a resident of Utah, as the prime suspect in the assassination of conservative activist and businessman Charlie Kirk. The development comes after a nationwide manhunt that gripped the United States since Kirk’s fatal shooting earlier this week at Utah Valley University.







According to law enforcement sources cited by the New York Post, Robinson was taken into custody on Friday after his father helped facilitate the surrender. U.S. President Donald Trump, confirming the arrest during a live television interview, said with “a high degree of certainty, we have him.”

Suspect in Custody After Days-Long Search​

The news of the Charlie Kirk suspect in custody marks a turning point in a case that has shaken the political and cultural landscape of the country. Kirk, 31, was shot while addressing a Turning Point USA event in Orem, Utah, before a crowd of over 3,000 people.
The shooter allegedly opened fire from a rooftop position around midday on Wednesday, hitting Kirk in the neck with a single bullet. Despite immediate medical attention, Kirk succumbed to his injuries in hospital shortly after.

The incident triggered an intensive manhunt involving the FBI, local police, and federal marshals. Authorities released surveillance footage of a figure dressed in black fleeing across a university rooftop. A reward of up to $100,000 was announced for information leading to the suspect’s capture.

How Tyler Robinson Was Caught​

President Trump disclosed that Robinson’s father played a critical role in persuading his son to surrender. Trump told Fox News that a “minister who was involved with law enforcement” initially recognized the suspect and contacted the family. The father then convinced Robinson to drive with him to a police station, where he was handed over to authorities.
“Somebody that was very close to him said, ‘That’s him,’” Trump noted. “The father convinced the son. They drove into the police headquarters, and he’s there now.”

Law enforcement officials have not yet released further details about Robinson’s background or possible motive. However, Trump made clear his stance on the punishment he believes is warranted.

Trump Calls for Death Penalty​

In his remarks, Trump described Kirk as “the finest person” and said the killing was a deliberate act that merited the harshest penalty. “I hope he’s going to be found guilty and I hope he gets the death penalty,” Trump said.
The President also confirmed that he plans to attend Kirk’s funeral, which is expected to take place in Arizona. “They’ve asked me to go, and I think I have an obligation,” he added.

Evidence Collected in the Charlie Kirk shooting Case​

Before the suspect was identified, investigators had recovered critical evidence from the crime scene. A bolt-action rifle, believed to be the weapon used in the shooting, was discovered in a wooded area near the university campus. The firearm was identified as an imported Mauser .30-06 bolt-action rifle and was found wrapped in a towel alongside three unfired rounds.
Officials also recovered a palm print and a footwear impression near the rooftop from which the fatal shot was believed to have been fired. The rifle is now undergoing forensic analysis at an FBI laboratory to determine whether it can be directly linked to Robinson.

Tyler Robinson: What We Know So Far​

Robinson, described as a 22-year-old Utah local, has no prior national profile but is now at the center of one of the most closely watched criminal cases in recent years. His sudden identification as the Charlie Kirk killer caught has fueled public speculation, though investigators have yet to outline a clear motive.
Reports suggested that engravings linked to antifascist and transgender ideology were found on the rifle, though officials have not confirmed whether these markings point to Robinson’s personal beliefs or affiliations.
