Help me build a 6ARC rifle for a new sport - Bike-athalon

pls disregard std stereotypes for cyclist or bicyclist etc..

OK, so last year I started combining roadbiking and shooting into one event. This has always been a by myself 10mile 1 way run over the mountain across town to the bougie indoor range to shoot groups and then ride back again but I'm looking to try other runs/ranges. I try to combine my time and groups for total scoring. I have run the Ruger 9mmPCC with lightweight handloaded shock case rounds, a couple of custom CZ pistols and the Ruger Black Grand Mamba 16" 22 pistol. More on that ridiculousness here:
Login to view embedded media So the Ruger PCC kind of cheats as a rifle IMO. I've put rounds on steel at 100+ with it and it does fine for the indoor range that is 25yds but I want a setup that I could take to other outdoor ranges 100yd+ ranges. So I'm looking at rifles to fit the niche. I was an early adopter of 6ARC and have kkkks of starline cases for those so I am leaning to that caliber. I would also kind of like a bolt action. I *did* look at the rifles that the olympic competitors use in the skiing event (seeing as how I'm just replacing the skis with a roadbike or gravel bike). From memory they run custom 22s. I want something I can reload for as a caliber. Also as most of these routes (currently) are along public roads, I don't want to be flagging around a rifle barrel on my back, so something that folds or breaks down is a huge plus. I'm also looking to possibly start deer/coyote hunting with a setup like this as well.

So I'm looking at
  • howa mini action : https://www.howausa.com/rifles/mini-excl-lite/ <-- seems like a really great option
  • Wingman Elude chassis and howa barreled mini action
  • build a short pencil lightweight upper for my 6ARC target rifle (this seems redundant as the biggest advantage would be barrel length ((vs my current 20" 6ARC)) - I looked at a carbon barrel and about choked at the $$$ so that's out. This could be built quickly and cheaply in general.
  • just find an old .223/.243 and slap it in a folding stock, possibly re-barrel it or if its a .243 can I just have the chamber reamed to a 6ARC?
  • build or buy a 16" bolt action pistol in 6ARC
Ok, so that's what's been on my mind lately. I didn't spend much $ or time on guns last year due to vehicle stuff but this year hoping to get more range time.

SOLD 1x fired Peterson 300 Win Mag Long Brass

I have 50 pieces of Peterson brass in 300 Win Mag Long for sale. These are 1x fired and ready to load.

If you are unfamiliar with the “long” version feel free to read up on it - but the TLDR is that these have a slightly longer length-to-shoulder dimension to negate the typical case stretch and early case-head separation that the 300 Win Mag suffers from. These WILL work in any standard 300 Win Mag chamber. Great brass but I no longer have a 300 Win Mag.

Asking $55 shipped, PayPal f&f or Zelle.

Charing handle popping loose - CMMG MK-3 308

I have a CMMG MK-3 308 and when I shoot it, the charging handle is popping loose when it's fired and reciprocating, sometimes hitting me in the face.

This was my fault. I reloaded some ammo that didn't get sized enough, got stuck in the chamber during a rifle match and I had to mortar the rounds out. When I did so, I suspect I didn't depress the charging handle latch enough and caused damage to the surface of the upper receiver where the latch sits.

Has anyone else had this happen with an AR? What's the fix?

The "gunsmith" in me wants to take a Dremel to it and square up the ledge and make the contact surface deeper for more engagement...

The receiver has a matching set of contact surfaces on the other side and I wonder if a company makes a charging handle with hooks on both sides. I have an image of one in my mind, but can't remember what manufacturer it might have been.

MDT XRS what are these forend holes for? Adding flush cup.

The MDT XRS forend has these holes in the side, underneath the plastic mlok slots. They are different from the 3 threaded holes for mounting the side panels. What are they for!? There are holes in the bottom of forend that look like they line up with the forend weight, but I can't find any accessories that seem to use these holes.

1000005873.jpg

I have an MDT XRS and just went from the original forend to an enclosed forend to get the arca rail, and these holes are on both forends.

I also added the wood kit that I've had kicking around for a while, and I like the look. However, I lost my side mlok on the forend that I was using for a sling cup. I am thinking about enlarging one of these and threading it for a threaded flush cup (I would also drill through the wood side panels). I just don't want to unknowingly mess up a mounting point for an accessory I might want in the future.

Loading Powder

I've been contemplating buying a automatic powder measure and scale.
I currently use a RCBS uniflow powder dispenser with a RCBS scale and a trickler.
I wanted to see if I would gain any time using an automatic powder measure so I timed myself loading 20 rounds using the uniflow and then trickling and loading the case. It took me 5 and 1/2 minutes to load 20 rounds that works out to 16-1/2 seconds per round. I'm not sure that an automatic measure can do it that fast.
The last time I shot those 20 rounds my SD was 8.4 for all 20 rounds
For now I think I'll save my money.

Should I go magnum?

I have an Aero Solus action and I have have both standard and magnum bolts heads. I currently shoot 308 6 and 6.5 creed.

I have access to a range to 1700 yards.

Give the fact that a lot of the reloader powders are unobtainable almost and the limited ability to load long heavy bc bullets (mag feed preferred)

Should I venture into a 7 Saum or 6.5 prc in a short action

Or

Sell the bolt face and just get a long action?

SPR Decisions. LMT MRP vs HK MR556 A4

SPR

  • LMT

  • HK

Results are only viewable after voting.

I have a OTB griffin can, Leupold 2-10x w/piggyback DPP that needs to be attached to a SPR. My question is do i go with a LMT MRP Quad setup or use the MR556 A4 as a platofrm. The HK would be a touch more expensive. The LMT would be all factory but with a Proof SS barrel converted for use.

****EDIT****
I went with the MR556 A4 and converted to a SPR setup via B5 sopmod stock and a geissele rail. Couldnt be happier. See below for details (1/2" 10 round groups, good velocity, super soft shooting)

Chinese Fly Safe System Off

Just saw it's being reported the Chinese made drones with the Fly Safe System that incapacitates a drone when entering a no fly zone has now been shut off. It will be up to the operator to know where he's flying it. So now Chinese made drones (is there any others? ) will be able to fly unimpeded over airports , stadiums, and more importantly, guess where? Over the White House and even more importantly over the inauguration Monday. What's the odds of this happening right now? The system has been in place since 2015. A drone collided with a Canadian super scooper fighting fires just a few days ago. Thoughts?

Firearms Ultimatum Precision Deadline 6.5 Creedmoor BA - Hawk Hill, 419, Timney

Up for sale is an Ultimatum Precision Deadline Barreled action. It’s got 300 rounds total through it.

I sent it to hawk hill (local-ish) to fit the barrel to the action. 24” hybrid profile with an area 419 brake, and a Timney Remington 700 HIT trigger.

Shot sub half with hand loads in my KRG W3 and a K525i on top. It was used in one PRS match before I decided the sport was too time consuming for me.

Everything was installed to manufacturer spec.

I’m asking $2,000 shipped to your FFL.

Night Vision Holosun IRIS 1/2/3/4 Official Discussion

I haven’t seen a formal thread for this yet and figured I’d start this.

We all know that Holosun announced the IRIS last year at SHOT24, which is their VSCEL-based laser unit. It took a full year to make it happen, but they finally released it and started shipping as of last week. I previously had and used their LS321G until I sold it to fund the IRIS.

I received my unit yesterday from SRS Tactical. It truly lives up to all the hype and I believe it’s going to absolutely shake up the industry based on its size, performance, and cost. It’s comical how good it is for $899 out the door.

IMG_8161.jpeg

I have not seen a product like this that will instantaneously cause most civilians to immediately start buying it and trying to likely sell their older civ powered LAMs. I would imagine even the LE/Mil crowd will have a hard time dismissing it, since it’ll be even cheaper per unit for them.

4MR Ranch released his initial overview and thoughts on it this week. Hop did the same for his SubscribeStar members.

Lastly, Holosun announced their IRIS-1, 2, and 4 today on IG as well. These look like they’ll be replacing their LS117, LS221, and LS420 series LAMs.

The IRIS-4 in particular looks to be a 4 in 1 unit with 1000 lumens, VSCEL Illuminator, and for $999 street. That is pretty dang incredible as well for the money.

I have to say I’m pretty amazed at this. The last product to obliterate all competitors and older models looks like the Garmin Xero Chronograph.

What do you all think?
