Report: LGBTQ Flocking to Gun Ranges Ahead of Trump Inauguration!

A report from the Philadelphia Inquirer indicates LGBTQ groups and others in liberal voting blocs are buying guns for self-defense ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration.
According to the Inquirer, “The … Liberal Gun Club … has received thousands of training requests since the election, more than in all of 2023,” a quarter of which are from members of the LGBTQ community.
The Socialist Rifle Association has seen a surge in memberships as well, as have the Pink Pistols.
A Pink Pistols’ slogan says, “Armed Gays Don’t Get Bashed.”
Matthew Thompson, a New Jersey resident who is gay, said, “The people I’ve been seeing on the left and the gay people who are out purchasing guns for the first time, it’s all about self-defense and fear … We’re not looking to arm up and storm the Capitol. We just don’t want to be put in concentration camps.”

This might make for an interesting discussion...

Looks like I used a similar thread title previously with regards to who had keys to your house...

Well this one isn't too far from that topic either but thought it might be an interesting chat nevertheless.

The question for the thread is- how much is the going rate for an acre of land where you live. You don't need to share (1) where you live, (2) how much land you own, (3) what you paid when you acquired it. Those might all make for a good conversation but just reckon that while there's a lot of factors that unite the posters here, real estate is wildly fickle.

To start the conversation off- I'll first acknowledge that with the new house I still don't own a full acre of property. I was somewhat strategic in the property that I did purchase in that it borders a mountain in the backyard (see my post about the enjoyment I've had listening to owls for example: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/im-a-big-fan-of-owls-personally.7231649/ or coyotes: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/more-excitement-from-my-backyard.7241269/)

But it's a rural development and somewhat new so looking at the lot sizes left for sale here on the mountain I reckon I can answer the question....

An acre of land here would approximately be around $70K. That's an incredible change from 2009 when I was offered either 10 acres of land in GA for $14K or 14 acres of land for $10K (it's one of them but I think the 1st one is right).

How are things in your neck of the woods?

6.5x284 velocities

Hello all.
Wondering if anyone can give me some advice on velocity.

I am shooting a Sako 75 chambered in 6.5x284. It was a factory 6.5x55 Swede 1:8 twist 24” varmint barrel and was rechambered to 6.5x284.

I have tried various loads, most recently 57 and 58 grains of retumbo, shooting an 140gr Eld-m and the best velocities I am generating are around 2770.

From everything I have read I should be getting closer to the 2900-2950 range?

Any ideas?

Should I re barrel and try a 26” or perhaps move it on and start again with a 6.5prc?

Cheers

Tips For a City Slicker Moving to the "Country"...?

Hello All,

Just bought a house on a couple of acres of dirt.

Looking for some tips with the following items:

I need an entry-level option for maintaining a dirt road. A lot of my neighbors have tractors, but that's well outside my budget for now (we all share a 1-mile-long dirt road with lots of hills). At the moment, I could probably afford a creative $3K option if anyone has any creative solutions...? It might be a year or two before I have "tractor money." 😅

Anyone have any noteworthy experiences with septic tanks? Mine is fenced off, so there's not much worry of it getting parked on or driven over.

I've got a shared well (50/50 with my neighbor, no other parcels have an interest in the well). Is there anything I need to be mindful of with regard to water usage/conservation? I've been wondering whether drilling a private well would yield any benefit (either an "administrative" benefit or a benefit as a water resource) ... Not quite sure.

The property includes an elevation change of about 15-20 feet with the home on the upper half, and the back yard having a cliff-like drop with a dirt ramp near the middle of the property. I see a lot of potential with this set up, but not sure of the downsides (other than flood/drainage for the lower portion). Anything I should be taking into consideration as far a property maintenance/development?

Any help is appreciated!

So whats the new variant on the SUURG setup? Can I buy a 13" tavor barrel?

In the interest of single stamp as short as possible 556 guns I previously considered getting a SUURG as far as I can tell you can't buy them anymore not to mention its heavy. Currently contemplating what the shortest single stamp for a sar95 would be. So can I buy a 13" piston setup for one or will they only sell me an SBR?

Then whats the current go to for suppressor/brake combo where the brake is over 3" long? A lot I've used over the years don't seem to be produced anymore. I'd probably get 2 brakes and put one on an ar as well and have 1 suppressor between the two with both being pinned and welded to over 16"
