Seekins SP10 or Wilson Combat super sniper?

Ok guys I am a Bolt gun guy. I am looking to buy one or the other seekins SP10 6.5CM or Wilson Combat super sniper. I will be running this primarily for Predator at Night with my Pulsar thermal on top. I have researched high and low and really need honest opinions seeing as I know very little about gas guns. I know I want a quality rifle but tell me why one over the other?

AR Upper & Lower Fitment & Accuracy

I understand the party line is that upper to lower fitment on an AR rifle doesn’t effect accuracy.

However, has anyone ever tested this?

I am envisioning someone who isn’t me taking an AR and installing the smallest takedown pins possible, to maximize rattle between the upper and lower, testing the accuracy, then installing the largest pins possible to minimize rattle, and shooting the same course of fire, and noting the results.

Or some other similar experiment etc as everyone is smarter than I am on the subject.

Has anyone done anything like this?

-Stan

Anyone seen this barrel?

I recently picked up at an auction a bolt gun. Literally one photo but decided I’d throw a risk out and put a bid in…I won. So it came and I’m trying to figure out just what the hell I have now. Looks to be a Surgeon action, McMillan stock and carbon wrapped barrel. There are no other markings on the barrel besides 22-250 REM on one side and Valhalla on the other. It has the appearance of a proof barrel and measures 24”. I’m trying to figure out without disassembling the rifle what the barrel manufacturer is. I can’t seem to find a Valhalla barrel anywhere and Proof won’t respond to my questions. Any idea?

To cut or not to cut...new Tikka T3X Lite

Hi all,

It's been a minute since I've been on this site and after years of the tactical game, I've started down the rabbit hole of scout rifles and "general purpose" rifles. My scout game is covered with both a Steyr Scout and a Ruger GSR and I recently purchased a Tikka T3x Arctic which is a lovely beast. However, I found myself with a left over West German Schmidt & Bender fixed 4x scope that is amazingly bright and sharp and thus the hunt began for a host rifle for this scope.

Last week I picked up a .308 Tikka T3x Lite. 22.4" Stainless, 1:11 twist, synthetic stock, etc. My initial thought is to have it cut back to either 18.5" or 20". I envision this rifle to be a handy "ranch" rifle so to speak. I plan to drop it into a used CTR stock I just bought off eBay so that I have 10 rd. mag compatibility with my Arctic. With a fixed 4x I don't imagine shots over 300-400m. I found a reputable gunsmith in the area who will cut my barrel back, thread and even mount his proprietary muzzle brake (Scott @ Live Oak Accuracy outside of Dallas). However, because the barrel diameter being pretty thin to begin with, he'd have to thread to 1/2x28 instead of the more common 5/8x24 for .308.

So now I'm waffling on which direction to go. Should I simply have it cut? If so...to what length? I'm leaning towards 20" to keep it the same as the Arctic, but 18.5" is kind of the old school "carbine" length.

Do I have it threaded...and then have to live with a very specific muzzle brake (albeit a very effective and well made one)? If this option, I'm thinking 18.5" which would put the finished length at 19.75" or thereabouts. Scott did offer to make a thread adaptor which would allow me to use other muzzle devices, but I'm hesitant to use a can with a thread adaptor. But it does provide options for other muzzle devices, flash hiders, etc.

Then there's the piece about gambling with accuracy. The Tikka is guaranteed MOA...do I risk negatively impacting accuracy by cutting? I have faith in Scott's work and reputation but I tend to follow the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach to life.

So, I'm torn...which direction would you go if faced with this dilemma?

Brake or no brake on 10.5" 6mm arc?

I'm planning on putting together a 6mm arc with a barrel between 10 and 12". I've never fired anything with that short of a barrel and don't know what to expect. Would a muzzle brake make it more pleasant or increase concussion? Unfortunately, suppression is not an option, and I may have to pin and weld, so I have to make up my mind before I can try it. This is mainly a "just because" project. Plinking and hunting if velocities will allow. I imagine doing a fair amount of prone shooting with it.

Does anyone have any wisdom to share?

Sig 556 Swat Patrol

Any of you have experience with these older Sig 556 Swat Patrol rifles? Purchased it new years ago and it's been sitting in the back of my safe. Kicking around the idea of selling it locally to fund something else. I just logged onto GB and searched for completed. Only one popped up and sold for $1650 No Reserve. Ad states that the Swat Patrol is rare. Not sure how true that is. There were 16 bids on it and sold 09/08/2024.

Custom Sizing Die

I am trying to step up my game for precision long range. I have had pretty good results from my reloading but want to explore ways to make it even beter. One of my first thoughts was to have a custom sizing die made but not sure how to go about that.

Would i just fire 5-10 rounds using new brass and send them to someone to have a custom sizing die made?

If this is not off base, should i do that with normal loads or hot loads?

Looking for advice and pointers of who can make the custom die.

Crossroads Precision Rifles, Bergara B14R

Here is a review of a my B14R I recently had rebarreled by Crossroads Precision Rifles LLC. I went with a mullerworks 1:13 twist in an M24 contour at 25 inches in length, with no muzzle threads. MDT XRS chassis and trigger tech special. Vortex strike eagle on 40 moa mount.

I spent the first few days trying different ammo— SK std+ and SK Rifle match multiple lots that I already had- the best being one of the lots of SK RM, but I wasn’t yet satisfied so I tried ELEY Match (black box) in a couple of different lots and have found what this gun really likes.

I shot 12 — 5 round groups at 50 yds between the 2 best lots.

The best group average 0.244” over 6 groups of 5 shots, second place averaged 0.288” in the same number of groups.

I was surprised at my average velocity in these 2 best groups 1120 and 1117 - on Garmin Xero. SD was 5.5 and 4.2 on those lots.

I then took it out to 100 yds and shot a couple of groups that average 0.632.

I am more than impressed with this rifle.

No cherry picking was done — all of the groups are accounted for — best single 5 shot group was 0.188 and the worst was 0.470 (courtesy of a flier that was 38 fps slower than the average)
